It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Hi all,

I played one season with crewe and have got them promoted to the championship, I think I was lucky, now I am planning to set up a good platform to grow the club into A dominant force in europe.

I wanted to get a good academy in place and also scout for the best young talent.

I wanted to improve the youth facilities but the board does not help? I dont know what effect will improving faciltits have on the players?

Next I wanted to scout for young players but I was not paid by the board for scouting mission other than my local area.

However I looked for the best talent in my area got them to the club by cutting my budgets. When i signed them my coach report was totally different to the scout report! All my signings were not great and were average, when I looked at the ability of my scout it was 10 in both juding ability and judging potential. I fired the old scouts got in new ones who have atleast 15 in judging potential. Now I have to start all over again.

Now my question is I have no clue if what I am doing is right , also I dont know if my facilites are good enuff to train good youngerones, also I tried to get the best youth coaches and all , but i cant get any over regional reputation, even then I think my coaches are mediocre.

I just want to get permission on scouting missions abroad some how and also do want my scouts to find good talents rather than useless stuff

I would be grateful for all the help in the scenario I am in !

sorry maybe i did not ask any concrete question,

Well what i really wanted to know if how to creat a good youth plus scouting system, keeping in mind i just got promoted to the championship and in this situation its not easy as the board is not allowing many things and i also do not have money.

Thanks in advance
P.S I would love grow as a club like arsenal does , get in young players and make them great

You may be looking too far ahead, discodewana. Talk about setting yourself lofty goals!!

If Crewe have just got promoted to the Championship, you will likely be at a club with a low reputation. Keeping them in the Championship and consolidating that position might be your biggest worry over the first couple of seasons.

Getting better scouts is a good first step, you will depend on unearthing talented players and maybe selling a couple for good money to bigger clubs to improve the bank balance, make a profit, and convince the club to invest in a youth academy.

Also, you are a new manager in the game, so you don't have high reputation yourself, so your wishes don't carry much weight with the board yet. You'll need to get some more success first.

It's always advisable to get good coaches, because what good are your potential stars if you have no one who can get the best out of them.

To have success on the pitch, try to sign some up and coming stars from the Premier League. Success feeds on success, so having potential stars at the club, even of they are on loan, means that other players will see Crewe as a good destination.

But to grow into a club like Arsenal with Crewe, as they say in the west of Ireland: "I wouldn't start from here."

You might be better off with a club like Portsmouth or Reading, who have already made some headway in that regard.

Don't shatter his dream!!

It's possible, but it will take a long, long time.
Even if you get off to a flier and win things early on, you will also need a good ambitious and patient board, a good fan base and some very good managment skills!

It's good to have goals and targets in FM, so good luck, keep us posted.

thanks a lot guys

I am trying my best, I just got in coaches lwho are around 15-18, in their area. coevered 3 areas fitness, attacking, defending, so my training ratings are improving , I still am not sure if my scouts are good enuff

is judging players ablity and potential , the basic criteria for getting scouts??

And by the way I didnt tell u guys why I took crewe , that is because I am a liverpool fan and I love the new reserve and youth players at melwood, so I got most of them on loan last year , they are the reason I am in the championship now!!

Hobbs, flynn, nemeth, brower!

Good move, going for Liverpool youngsters!

Good luck, it could be a hard slog, but that would make success all the sweeter!

On coaches: if you can get 1 good coach per training area, and if the star rating for each area is at least 4 or 5 stars, you'll soon see improvements in players' attributes. So along with good scouts you will have laid down a good base.

Who knows, maybe your board will eventually invest in a youth academy. Let us know how you get on.

Well i got coaches in 3 areas who are giving me 4+ stars

but i still wonder what are the skills required by a scout who gives nearly accurate judgement about players!

and yeah another thing i noticed was that few of my players who were worth 50-80k , their value shot up to 2 million plus after promotion!

that was fun

Keep up the good work!

Judging Potential and Ability are the two most important stats for a scout, yes. Apparently motivation helps too so they keep looking for players in their search.

Just try not to set yourself goals that are too high. For example, the first time you get into the Premier League, you may come straight back down if it is a little too early, but you should get some good players in the process so you will have a better team next time you go up.

The one important tip in my opinion is to keep your finances in a healthy position. DO NOT OVERSPEND!
