2007/08 – Basingstoke Town – Conference South
Media prediction: 18th
Like I said, I thought I had built a platform and would really be successful this season, but it wasn’t that much better than the first. Although I did finish 8pts closer to the playoffs, I didn’t meet my own expectations. This is my first proper game on FM2007 and I haven’t been reading the forums much, so I didn’t know that they’ve made the game harder (if indeed they have?), which is brilliant. On my 2007 Sparvagen (Sweden) game, I rose up the leagues unbelievably fast (though I was lucky to find two unbelievable strikers straight away), which I found unrealistic. But anyway, back to this save… signed 4 players on frees who two seasons on are still very important members of my squad. Players left on frees, but nobody important.
12th Basingstoke 42 – 15 15 12 – 52 39 +13 – 60 (21pts off drop, 6 off playoffs)
Been playing under LLM ethics for the past two years and have gained enlightenment through it, the only truly satisfying way to play the game. I’ve just finished my forth season and still I’m not sure what my objective is for this particular save – whether it is to take Basingstoke as far as possible (which is harder than ever – brilliant!) or to move up the managerial ladder as quick as possible to become a ‘great’ in this my oh so real FM reality. I was leaning towards the latter to begin with, but I think I’ve stuck around too long and fallen in love with the club and two or three of my prodigies, so I'm feeling 'TH14 loyal' right now! Running all divisions from England, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Holland and France on a large DB.

Media prediction: 21st (finished 19th in real life in ’06)
If I remember correctly, I was fairly happy with a team and felt I could comfortably avoid relegation. Even so, I signed 8 players in September on frees, and non left. I did comfortably avoid relegation and thought I had built a good platform to push on to the playoffs the following season.
14th Basingstoke 42 - 14 10 16 – 42 42 +0 – 54 (16pts off drop, 14 off playoffs)

Signed three first eleven players (a star GK, decent DR and a very good AMRC) in the summer and felt I had a decent chance of winning the league outright. Season started brilliantly and I was on top for the first 10 games or so, but everything fell to pieces for a long time, primarily due to a many long term injuries to several key players. However, it picked up and I somehow managed to finish 2nd, partly due to the teams around me ******* up late on. The same striker finished top scorer again, despite two separate month long injuries (the second picked up on his first game back off the bench), with 21 goals in 33 games. Beat Eastleigh 4-1 (0-0 away in the first leg) in the semi and 3rd placed Farnborough 2-1 AET against the odds in the final.
So, finally got promoted in what I found to be a very tough four seasons. Even my last season when I finished 2nd was very difficult, but of course extremely enjoyable. Sold one fringe player for £1000 somewhere along the way, but I didn’t see any of that money come back to me. All other transfers in and out have been frees. Club is currently £413,000 in the red (started £10K in the black), despite a recent investment of £121,000, and keeping to the wage budget has been one of my biggest challenges. Tipped by the media to finish rock bottom in my first season in the Nationals!... will report back in due course…

Under achieved in the first part of the season, however my scouts found two young unattached strikers who I signed in December and January respectively. They changed my season and really pushed me on. Grabbed the last playoff spot by a mere 2 goals on the last day of the season where I beat Fisher, who had just won the division a week before, in a dramatic 3-2 win having been down twice. The striker who I signed in January, who is actually worth less financially than the other, was my top goalscorer having scored 13 in 18 games. Lost 3-2 away to Tamworth in the firstleg of the playoffs and 1-0 in the return – hit late on while all-out attacking.
KUT :cool:GMisleadingthreadtitleW!!!!!!!!! Showing a good improve, ent as Noddy said but you might want to keep an eye on your finances. Apart form that good work & good luck for next season
