Default Hopeless scouts

Hi fellow LLM'ers.

I finally bought FM07 a couple of weeks ago, and installed it, and got the latest patch.

Been playing as the mighty Eastleigh. One thing though....my scouts are completely hopeless.

I started with one, who didn't find a single player all season.....not even one who was completely useless or unsuitable!

I thought this may be down to him also scouting 'next opposition', so I placed an advert for a new scout. When a few applied, I picked who appeared to be the best one, sent him scouting England, no filters, just to go and find some players, and.......nothing.

Any thoughts? Am I doing something stupidly wrong? Or are my scouts just spending their day in the pub when they should be trying to find me some players?!

I'm not asking for tips as such, just does anybody know a way to get my scouts to actually do their job?

The first few seasons the scouts are, for want of a better description, pish.

After that, especially with the new gens things do pick up. Just don't expect fantastic results straight away.

They do get better....honest

Just a quick point - scouts in 07 don't report back when they see someone good, or when they finish their search. You have to go to the Scouting screen and click the "Reports" button beside the appropriate scout to see the reports.

If you already knoew this, and have done it, apologies, and I've no idea what the problem is, unless your scouts are pish

No, I had no idea that was the case. I assumed stuff came up in your news like in FM05. Thanks for that, I will check that next time I boot the game up.

Actually, if you have a scout assigned to a competition, he will report back on players and you'll get a news article about it.

I'm guessing it's because they find fewer players this way and if they did it for the other methods of scouting, your Inbox would simply be overloaded.

Checking the scout reports will probably comfirm your opinion that they are pish

On the topic of scouting, has anyone experienced the following: I have a scout that I send regularly to NI, Ire, and Wales. The weird thing is, each trip lasts about a week. So he basically goes and watches a single game, then comes back. Is this a known bug?

I get that a lot. I just figured there wasn't much for him to bother scouting. Of course, I think they should just scout everyone they can, I'll decide who's rubbish.

Well it is not so much a bug as a feature. It is a right pain in the ass though it means that every 3 or 4 days you have to send him out searching again. And if you forget well he just sits in the pub

It could well be the scout's hidden "Tends to sit in pub a lot" attribute.

Personally I don't have this problem with scouts, besides the fact they find a lot of carp players...

I suppose it is a good thing in a way, as it makes sure you keep remembering to "meet" with your scouts and see what they have found, and where they are going to go next. As opposed to just meeting with him on day one of the job, sending him to Ireland and telling him to come back in twelve months with a report.
