Not sure I understand this topic fully. You've downloaded a skin that enables you to use a huge database, where you couldn't before? How does that work if the DB size depends on your computer spec, which doesn't change?

Not sure why you would bother to be honest. I use a small database because that's all my pathetic skip-destined box of tricks will conjure for me, but it takes away no enjoyment, at least not so far anyway.

The huge db is in the game, but it was "hidden" by SI due to some problems with freds; it's possible to enable it again by tweaking one of the sking files. So it's official but, uh, unofficial. Make of that what you will.

There are some ways to get the effects of the huge DB. With the option to have leagues as view only, and the detail low, I've found that I can run many more leagues than was the case in past CM/FM version. MV has said the more leagues you run, obviously, the more players are retained in the db at start up. I have about 50 leagues selected, with playable only in a few. Selecting at least one league from each area helps, like the Aussie league, South Korea, Russia, South Africa, etc.

For something more controversial, the retain players from option will help. The issue has been unbalancing- getting too many players of a certain nationality in the game. I wonder, though, if you retained players from all the countries in which you have leagues selected, would you have the same problem? SI seems to have improved player signing to a degree.

I started a recent save with the 50 leagues, plus retained players from all the countries that have selected leagues, so I will keep an eye on it. In the past, the huge DB was sufficient, but I have found that the large DB this time around is totally inadequate- very High profile clubs having grey squads (even in leagues you select as playable) etc.

No flaming here, because I know the general llama consensus has been that retain function is not too good, but I want to see how it plays out given the lack of the huge DB. Also, since MV also stated at some point that retaining didnt screw up the Freds the way the old huge DB did, I am thinking there shouldn't be a problem with a world of english or irish wonderkids. We'll see . . .
