I've read the FAQ and all, I just want to ask for opinions on a few things in my game.
1) Starting reputation. In the FAQ it says to select your reputation for what it is in real life, and it really would reflect the challenge that LLM offers. However in a previous game where I started as Automatic, I took Bath (joined in the second season) from relegation candidates in Conf South to 2nd place in Conference National in a few seasons, but I just couldn't get a job anywhere else. With my automatic rating, nobody would rate me. I mean it might be nice for a struggling L2 team to pay attention, although I concede that as a long shot, but not even relegation fodder Conference South teams would consider me. I love playing a game where I move from club to club trying to make them as good as possible, and I find automatic makes this impossible.
What setting have others tried and used that allows their achievements as manager not to be overshadowed by beginning setting? I feel I have wasted many hours on that Bath game because I simply cannot move on.
2) Is Dutch Division 2 or German Division 2 considered LLM? This really is just in passing as I think I'll start there anyway, but would like to know. Dutch Div 2 is as low as you can go in Holland but is reasonably well funded.
Starting reputation's a personal thing. I started as Sunday League once (my level) but I generally start as automatic, I can't remember where I saw it stated but it was said that it was best for LLM.
LLM's, by definition, starting in the lowest available league in any given Nation, so if Holland 2nd's as low as you can go...hit it!
Yeah, reputation must be really just how much of a handicap you're willing to give yourself. I do want a challenge, but I don't want to cripple myself to only one club, so was wondering what other people's experience is, is sunday league or semi-pro the lowest you can go whilst still being recognised for your achievements?
To be honest, I don't mind starting in the very bottom German/French/English league if after a few seasons toil my work is appreciated and I can move on. Where I start is really all down to how likely I am to find new similar or better jobs.

Wrong. In LLM, reputation should reflect your real-life experience. If you didn't play Sunday League football, then your experience should be Automatic.

This is a fair enough comment, but the game I'm going to play is not so much to be done to strictly fulfill the LLM criteria. I am not going to be coming on here to tell people about my game, I just want to play the game in teh way I find most fun, and it is a lot closer to the way LLM play than the regular forums play (as in scouting, job centre, no previous knowledge to be used).
With that in mind I am tweaking LLM rules to fit what I want from the game. I am merely asking what setting people found the best. I would be happy to use Automatic to reflect my lack of real history, if I didn't consider the feature to be broken, for reasons I have already stated. I don't want to stay at the same club for years, I want to move around, and Automatic doesn't let me do that.
I think that most (if not all) of the regulars on here start with automatic as the reputation at start. Many of the updates tell of moving clubs, getting jobs when they have been sacked, and even being offered international managership.
In your Bath game, you did not get the offers or did not get the jobs when you applied, this may just have been a random p;art of the game and is not necessarily true for all games started with your initial reputation set to automatic. Try it again with your new save, it may be that your reputation will increase faster as your team moves up the leagues.
Can't say I ever really paid reputation much notice, just left it on auto, and off I went. I'm sure I remember a few people posting stuff about reputation, and it going up as their team(s) did well.
LLM rules & guidelines are great, they've been around a long time, so they're tried and tested, and save you this bother of working out your own. But it's your game as they say, and your free to play it as you wish.
