2021/22
Finally managed to sign a decent striker - in fact spending £15m on two of them, and a 3rd on my shortlist being offered to me for £0 by Real Madrid in December.
Bolstered by a bit of attacking power, I was looking to qualify for Europe via our league position. In the end, we did better than I had hoped, finishing 4th:
W20 D11 L7 F56 A36 Pts 71.
Chelsea blew a spectacular 1st half of the season to finish runners up to Man United. Despite where we finished, we were resolutely beaten by all of the big 4 throughout the season, except Chelsea who we took 4 pts off.
Domestic cups were awful, going out early in both. Arsenal won the League Cup, Liverpool the FA Cup.
In the UEFA Cup we battled our way through to the final, only to lose 2-1 to Schalke in extra time. Inter beat the Arse in the Champions League Final.
Switzerland
We finished 2nd in our World Cup qualifying group, having drawn twice with England and lost our first and last games. Fortunately this was good enough to grab us the best 2nd place team spot, and passage to the finals.
Our World Cup Final Group was:
Chile
England
Iran
We lost 1-0 to Chile, but I'm still not sure how, and drew again with England, 0-0. Other results meant we could only qualify if we beat Iran by a few goals with Chile somehow beating the poofs.
England lost a man early and went 2-0 down, whilst we were 2-1 up. Another goal for us or Chile would put us through. Then in the 90th minute, both of them happened \o/ putting us through with Chile and England going out at the group stage.
In the 1st knockout stage we got Australia and somehow drew 2-2 in a game we dominated, only to lose on penalties. Bloody convicts.
Spain went on to win the World Cup.
