Heres something I rustled up in my nights while playing LLM...
The Zogster's A to Z of LLM
The following post is all about what LLM means to me and how it has changed my FM experience aswell as my everyday life. Hope you enjoy reading it. Feel free to post alternative articles as I could have done many more for some of the letters but limited it to just one article per letter.
A - Addiction - Before my LLM days I would have called by self an FM fan, however I am most certainly an FM addict, myself and a friend recently calculated that 1/2 of the time of the time I spent awake was on FM (this was measured over 3 months, My playing time over 3 months reached around 28 days). FM is one of the things in my life I couldnt give up.
B - Board Takeovers - The worst feeling in LLM I have ever had is getting kicked off the management staff from a club I have turned from being Semi-Pro to being a team that has won several promotions, with no relegations, doing above expectation, and have a young squad with potential, and having it all ripped away by a new chairman who wants a new manager.
C - Conference North/South - The Division which almost all 07 LLMers have played in and a lot of us have stayed in this division for absoloute yonks before we get a promotion. I have enjoyed every game I have played in this division from the 6-0 wins against the top club to the 5-0 trouncings to the already relegated clubs.
D - Days and Nights - I have said goodbye to many of these through the seasons of LLM. The sleepless nights have been raised significantly due to my LLM experiences but I wouldnt have given up one of them for 40 winks.
E - England Job - The one thing I have in common with all 3 of my English 07 LLM games is I have been offered the England Job in League 2 or before. With Leigh RMI I was offered in League 2 as was the case with Margate, and bizarrely with Chelmsford I was offered it while being mid table in the Conference South! Every occasion I have been offered it, it has been rejected, but maybe one day I could try my hand at the international job.
F - FA Cup/Trophy - One thing that has always has evaded me during 10s of seasons of LLM is a cup competition. I will never understand why it is possible for a team not to win against a team that is 1-30 to beat you, to go on and beat you (It has happened to me, I was beaten by Brook House in FA Cup 2nd Round Qualifying, as Margate fielding my full-strength team) but it happens. One of the few things remaining for me to achieve in my LLM career, Semi-Finals of both the Champions League and FA Trophy being the closest I have ever come.
G - Giant Killing's - Well, youve made it to the 3rd round, a few wins against mediocre clubs from your division and below, and then you get a potential money spinner vs. a Championship club, every time (for me) I outplay the bigger team, but lose 4-0, meh, the money is worth it.
H - Hurling Things - Sometimes the frustration gets to me so much that things do get thrown and broken. Sometimes I feel fortunated to have a corded mouse and keyboard as they would have had to have been replaced so many times it would cost me a small fortune.
I - Injury Time Nightmare's - Why does this seem to happen more in an FA match? It defeats me all I know is that there is a conspiracy against me, 91,92,93,94 an 95 are the 5 unluckiest numbers. EVER.
J
K - Knowing how they do In real Life - I am now finding myself checking the results of the LLM clubs I have managed on the game, and guess to an extent I suppose actually support them, I am happy if they win and annoyed if they lose, I want to know who scored and see if they play for me. I always check up on my FM players in real life too, see if they have moved clubs etc. Bizarre, isnt it?
L - Leigh RMI - My first '07 LLM campaign and my most successful ever. I led this unknown bunch of nobodies to become premiership supertars, Champions League Semi-Finalist and made the club richer to the tune of 50 million pounds. My Leigh RMI campagn is 25 seasons young, and just to stay in a job that long in LLM is an achievement in itself IMO.
M - Money - Or lack of it - My major issue when first LLMing was balancing wage budgets and transfer budgets, I hadnt a clue how to survive on an amount which was a 20th of what some players earn in a week for my entire squad in a week. Then the transfer budget is less than a penny, leaving free transfers the only way to go. The greatest feeling is being in a respectable division and having the freedom to spend money on some players and actually BUY them from another club, rather than scrounging around, but that scrounging is absoloutly great.
N - No More Nails - Playing in a play off final or in a relegation decider is now a sure fire way to make sure my nails dont exist for the next few days. Its now rare for me to be found not nail-biting in a game in FM because it has becme such a habit during my LLM time.
O
P - Play-Offs - The biggest games you are ever likely to face in LLM, and all of my greatest moments have been in play-offs as well as some of my worst. I have had it all from losing the Conference North Play-Off Semi after losing out on the title by a point, all the way up to the joy of promotion to the premiership after a penalty shootout win, from snatching the play-off place on the final day.
Q - Quitting? - One thing that I have found hard to do in LLM which was easier in managing a big club is quit the game. In a larger club my mentality was "just one more game" however in LLM my mentality is "Ill go to bed right after this season is over" (usually when im only about halfway through the season!).
R - Relegation - Relegation is part and parcel of the LLM life. Being relegated from the lowest possible division is the lowest you can go in LLM, but its happened to me loads of times in God knows however many countries that eventually you get used to it, but the disappointment never goes away.
S - Scouts - What would LLM be without the beloved scouts? They are my only morsels of hope of finding a gem in the pre-season. Even if I have to settle for a Judging Potential and Current ability stat, that combined make up a number that struggles to reach double figures, I always manage to buy 20-25 "Quality Signings" who I should buy "at any cost" and end up finding every last one of them as useful as the last batch that was brought in.
T - Tea - This is my saviour on a sleepless night playing FM07. Since my first LLM started my tea consumption has increased to about treble of what it was, I often find myself with 3 cups of tea lined up on my desk before I even bother to start an overnight session of LLM.
U
V - Violence - Violence is something I have stumbled upon much more commonly in LLM, with every great team I have built comes the psychos, players who pick up 10 bookings a year and 3 red cards. They often land some great puches, kicks, and the occasioanal headbutt. Meaning my teams are never going to qualify for Europe through the Fair-Play table.
W - Wonderkids - In my time as an LLMer, these are up there with the really annoying things that happen in LLM. Once every few years your scout finds a real gem, 17 year old playing in a foreign country, they want 200 quid for wage and a 5 year deal, so you snap them up, you ease (throw them in at the deep end) them into the first time, after a few good performances, Mr. Big Shot wants to buy your superstar for 300k, the board who are currently happy with the financial position, accept the bid because it is too good to refuse, this leads to the player leaving for a bright future, and time after time I have seen the word Wonderkid appear on their profile. They are bitter sweet for me, its alwayd good to see them play in World Cups and have great games and think to yourself, he used to play for me, but on the flip side, you always thinks what could have been if he'd stayed for a few more years.
X
Y - Yelling - I hold my hands up to it, and Im sure you all have done it at some point as well. One great part of LLM is the way it makes you scream out in joy of scoring a 35 yard sceamer from your 8th choice center back, scream out in anger of the same guy trying a 35 yard backpass that is also a screamer into the top corner (of the wrong goal), or the yells of frustration as the opposing keeper is on a 10 while your players bombard the opposition goal. These are the moments I cherish as an LLM player.

Its not complete anyone wanna post some new/alternate entries? (Z and X are a nightmare)

I'm not at all a regular in here anyway. I just saw the topic title in the sidebar on the main forums page so thought I'd have a read and I liked it so thought I'd give positive feedback
