Naming Sergei Baltacha wouldn't result in a banning...look, I've just done it.
| Well, obviously you'll get away with it, seeing as you're the one with the power. |

In terms of LLM, taking advantage of the ability to get players non-eligable according to the Gentlemens agreement into your national side should be banned.
Slightly off topic again, but don't want to venture into the GQ discussion and reflame it.
Talked to a friend who is a solicitor/lawyer, and according to him the Gentlemans agreement could be upheld in court assuming managers of a country has acted in consort to it.
Secondly, since this is in effect a voluntary limitation on your own national team, and hence not effecting competitiveness on the market place, this can not be taken to a court based on an individuals right to play for a country (they don't have that right, they are technically granted the privilage).
Thirdly, connected to the last point, a national team is not a work-place per say according to the law, so this is a bit of a grey area.
Summation according to my friends would be that while it would be technically possible for someone with citizenship to be called up for one of the home countries, they are effectively hindered to do so by this gentlemen's agreement as it could be upheld in law based on tradition/previous actions. He did say however that he wouldn't be sure what the ruling would be, it could go either way, only that the EU wouldn't have an opinion on it as it doesn't effect the marketplace or competitiveness and such.
I think thats it, I might have got some of the finer points off a bit, but in case anyone needs to know more I'll call him again.
Cheers

Ah, him! I thought it was a current player you were on about.
Never heard of a Baltacha playing tennis, but then tennis doesn't interest me.

Just living in a country for five years doesn't count. If you are in England on a student visa under the age of 18, those years are not counted towards your residency. Or something.
I know my girlfriend had to wait for 5 years after she was 18 to apply for indefinite stay / citizenship. I'll ask her the details.
