just completed my first full season w/8.0.1. (aston villa) and noticed a few strange things, specifically w/liverpool and arsenal.

arsenal just never got off the ground, finish 14th in the end. wenger was axed sometime midway through the season and after a short spell, marcello lippi was hired. he managed to last all of 100 days before being sacked as well finally being replaced by omar hitzfeld.

in liverpool, even stranger. they were struggling to live up to their pre-season predictions, ultimately finishing 8th. benitez was banished before the mid-point and pat rice promoted to manager. well, he survived 17 days (winning 2, losing 1) before being sacked. his replacement? rafa benitez. had a good laugh there, but this scenario is seriously flawed.

(then again, maybe liverpool knows something i dont; season 2 just started and they are off to a flyer winning their 1st 3 games by an 8-0 aggregate).

anyway, not bugs per se but the logic behind this seems a bit weird.

Yeah, I kinda agree with you on this.

The board tends to overreact somewhat if a high profile team's manager is having a slump.

It seems that it doesn't tend to happen as much in the lower leagues, which I manage...

2012, manu was struggling in the relegation zone as surprising as it may sound they hired a totally unknown manager named John Sheridan, irish guy and they are doing better than that year staggering in the midtable ever since sir alex retired the club been going downhill really quickly.

Maritn Jol is still at his job ;-)

btw most of the guys sir alex bought like rooney, c ronaldo, anderson etc. are no longer at the club i think is because of their ridiculous debt they are selling players

ha! yeah, he didnt survive into 08/09 in my game. contract not renewed. a few other managers didnt survive at the end either, not having contracts renewed. there were a few other weird staff issues, but the liverpool/arsenal issues stood out quite a bit.

agreed with liverpool they been struggling in midtable for a few years now in my game, i dont see that changing anytime soon with players unhappy obviously because they dont get any champions league and key players like gerrard getting old...

arsenal is my only real competition, they been splashing out hundreds of millions of dollars on new players ;-) is no arsene

interestingly enough, when lippi took over for wenger in my game, he didnt any waste time and spent $102 million for silva! didnt save him in the end though...

In my game Liverpool did a similar thing and had 4 managers in 1 season, can't remember who right now but Benitez didn't get his job back

John Sheridan is not a total unknown, he is a well respected player and legend at Sheffield Wednesday (see 1991 league cup final) and has been fairly successful at Oldham in past years, so it's feasible that he could become a top manager within 5 years. My guess is that you're a ManUre/top 4 fan who rarely looks outside the premiership :p

Going back to the original post, the Wenger example is relatively believable but the Liverpool one is ridiculous.
