This could possibly go on the players/teams board but I'll try it here first -
I'm playing as a team in league two that I managed to keep up after taking over midway through the season despite being adrift at the bottom thanks to some good loan signings. The financial situation is very tight, there was (and probably won't be) no money for transfers and the wage budget very restricting (less than £17k p/w). I'm getting towards the point where players start to become available on bosmans but at the moment it is possible to sign some players on free transfers.
I need some advice about what's the best thing to do as far as keeping some of the players I have that I'm not convinced by, or gambling on getting a few bosmans or frees from big clubs releasing players. I think the main factor is wages, that seems to be what separates a league 1 side from a league 2 side. I've had fairly mediocre players wanting in excess of £1k a week, whereas I could probably keep some of the borderline players I have on relatively cheaper wages. So do I stick or twist? Will there be players available for wages I can afford, and should I wait until my wage budget for next season is announced before I start trying to sign players?
On the few occasions I've been lower-leaguing it I've thrown most of my energy and resources into youth. In June/July keep an eye on the youth teams of clubs in the top two leagues - they'll release young players nowhere near good enough for them but will be able to do a job for you and also lead to a nice transfer fee in a few years time.
