Hi, I was just wondering how the AI managers work. Do managers like Alex Ferguson/Arsene Wenger make tactical changes that Gareth Southgate etc not do? Just seems that if you're winning every team changes to 4-2-4 with no clear tactical difference between top managers and the run of the mill.
Only difference I spotted was Ferguson kept swtiching wingers to attacking wingers and then back which kept messing up my man markers.
Anyone know how this works? cheers

The AI on FM2007 was very one-dimensional, in that it was 3-3-2-1-1 always when ultra defensive, and 4-2-4 always when all out attack. I think SI have improved that on 2008, with the AI using more formations when trying to chase the game.

Yeah but a top manager would have more ideas up his sleeve than a championship/inexperienced manager. Does that happen in the game? Are you more likely to be out foxed by a bigger name manager than someone relatively inexperienced?

AI managers have attributes to determine their abliity such as Tactical Knowledge, Man Management, etc.

I don't know how much of an effect these ratings have though.

a lot of top managers could be making changes to a players personal instructions that you wouldnt necessarily see on the screen
