Don't get me wrong. I like the new FM. It's just... I don't have the time to treat it with the respect it deserves. I can't spend hours watching games to learn how the player instructions work. I can't be bothered working out the nuances of training. And I get really depressed that, in order to keep my management career above water, I have to download tactics and training regimes off other people. I know that it's not me playing this game. I'm just outsourcing the work to other people.
There was a time when I played FM as my own game. That was when the game was simple enough for the casual gamer to grasp. That was when it was still "CM". I loved that game: the epic narrative, the 20-season-long games, and the kids that grew into world-class players before your eyes, retired, and joined you on the staff.
It's all changed with FM. And while I like a lot of the new features, I feel that the bits of CM that I fell in love with are slipping away. It's become a game of tactical gurus, of "football" managers, instead of the dreamy world of "championship" managers and footballing dynasties. I don't think I'm alone in this. For example: when you recall the name Tonton Zola Moukoko, do you think of an awesome player who scored 30+ goals a season for 10 years, or do you think of the succession of tweaked tactics in which he played? I prefer to think of the stunning career he had in my Juve side. In the end, what we get out of this game isn't the temporary joy of beating an AI tactic. Rather, it's the satisfaction of nuturing a succession of brilliant players from infancy to retirement.
I realise I sound like a tired old windbag, but this whine does have a point: I would rather SI dusted off the old CM game engine, updated the players and clubs, and sold it off as "FM Lite". Is there anyway that could happen?
The default tactics can actually work pretty well. The setting up training is a one time event and can be done rather quickly.
Just try and find the formation that suits the players you have. Then use the default settings for the different positions if someone is underperforming alter it abit.
You probably wont reach perfection but you can get pretty far with it.
You have CM01/02 I am sure, and there are data editors, and updates?
Besides, the main complain when I first found FM was how easy it was, and that you could complete your lifes work in 4 seasons.
Now, its a gruel, and a tough slog at that, where luck plays its part, and that is how football can be, so I like that.
Dont get me wrong, for the old school, FM Lite would probably sell, but it was too easy, and people would only like it because of how easy it was to win!
yeah old versions of cm are quality...i still go back and play them now sometimes...the versions where you could buy ronaldinho for £5million from gremio and saviola the same from river plate when they wer youngsters.
they wer too easy though fm08 is a challenge/a pain in the bum sometimes but i can safely say im addicted
