As a kinda continuation from the topic that you may only offer contracts to foriegn based players on Jan 1st here is the situation.
I'm Leeds (dirty gits) i wanna strengthen for next season but by board will not allow me to scout overseas. Any ideas how i can find these players or have i just got to know about them??
I asked my 18 year old Argentinian wonderkid (Pablo Pilatto?) and he recommended some dude for 12million. Yeah right you flash sod!!!
Sorry for the ignorant question but what exactly does a trial do? The player can't play competitive matches.
To poach gems from the U21 sides you need a big enough database to have all the players loaded. I am playing a mini game with England only loaded and small DB and there are almost no available players on the U-21 sides.

Also, offer trials. Every now and then clubs will accept, but you dont know if you dont ask.

Sure, he can't play competitive matches, but your staff can run the rule over him. Decide if he's good or not. You're not paying him a wage, so nothing to lose, especially if you can't scout abroad.
You know if you type "no club" in the search bar, and are running plenty of databases, you will find a lot of young players of 14 to 20 years old who are new to the game, ie they havent been released but are free agents looking for clubs.
Rather than scout them all and have to risk someone else taking them from under your nose, I bring them on trial, and if they are good, I effectively have a week to give them a contract. If not, I terminate the contract straight away and move on.
Trials are a very important part of the game to me and I am surprised I have never seen the AI use them
