...Team instructions, should I leave all the team bars in the middle if I use player set instructions and if I use the team bar leave the player settings alone except the playmaker & target man?

Because it seems they are contridicting each other, say I set a midfielder to DM but have the team set to attacking which would come first, also if I put direct passing or short as team but set my players for each position they mostly have different styles of passing

Just set your team instruction to mid point of your player's instruction ( if your GK's mentality is 8 and your FC mentality is 20 - set team mentality to 14 ). The same goes for the other instructions.

I beleive the player instructions come first. I see it that you set up a general tactic for the way your team plays. However, you may want your CD to stay back at all times so put him to defensive. He will listen to the staying back part rather than do what the rest of the team is doing.

if you set the team instructions to attack then you went to your DM and said to him to hold his position then what do you think happens?
the DM holds his position.
there's no contradiction.
it's individual team instructions. the team play attacking but the DM holds to keep a solid defence if you get hit on the counter.

i had an absolutely hilarious example of team orders and player orders:
I had set ben haim at LCB, and Carvalho at RCB;
I was against pompey and utaka was up against tal, with kanu against carvalho, so i thought it would be better the other way round, i swapped them over and was amused to see the AI swap utaka and kanu over.
So i then decided to set carvalho to man mark utaka and tal to mm kanu, the result....tal and ricardo practically held hands in the middle of the park, halfway between holding their position and halfway between man marking....truly hilarious.
So in answer to the OP, team orders and individual orders carry equal weight and therefore equal import to the team.
