Now I can assure you I'm no FM/CM newbie, I've been playing the various incarnations of the game for 10 years or more.
Anyway, the match was an utter farce. 2nd Group Game of the CL, I tweak my tactics and we're off:
Valencia go straight on the attack and Carra is sent off with 2 mins gone. Fair enough, on comes Agger for a winger. Valencia are peppering the goal with shots but I'm having a couple too. Then with 15 mins gone Agger gets injured. Meh. No CB's left so on comes Sissoko and I play two holding DM's with barrows and switch to defensive style.
Valencia are on top but I sneak in a goal on 25 mins, but after that I witness torrent after torrent of relentless Spanish attack. My boys just roll over and play dead but thankfully I have Reina doing a Billy the Fish impression and I just gawp in despair.
At half time I go even more defensive and try in vain to coerce my players into getting a foot in or even to stay back and defend it out. But no, even with my whole back 5 (3 Defs, 2 Dms) everytime Reina gathers the ball from yet another wasteful Valencia effort they go charging up the pitch and loose the ball.
And after 90 mins of absurdity Valencia finally get the ball in the net from a corner.
I don't think I've ever seen anything like this in any football management game. This wasn't a football simulation, this was a sham. :thdn:

mate i feel your pain, i'm playing a game as liverpool (just into the 2nd season after doing the quad last year) and i've found that early red cards are the norm for any of the back 4, no matter what your tactics are. it's rediculous, i tend to play with 2DMs anyway (since liverpool have about 70 on their books!) so it's not too hard to cover but it's really annoying.
the red cards seem to happen most of the time in the bigger games, CL games, matches against Chelski and Man Poo, games that you really need 11 men out there.
sometimes you just have to cry, have a drink, and play the next game.
also mate, have you found stevie g to be quite poor this year? no matter where i play the twit he's lucky if he gets a 7, his average last year was around 6.73, and this year i think he's about 6.85. just not like him, he misses way too many long shots and he doesn't take control of the game enough if we're in a jam like irl.

if you push your team back into defence, you should expect valencia to attack you throughout the game, when the team is defending, no one is attacking, therefore the opposition will have most of the positioning..
plus why do you keep on opening a different post for each complaint? relax there..going through such pressure is what being a manager about

I don't think you guys are catching my drift, sorry if I didn't point it out clear enough for your tiny minds to comprehend. I wasn't too bothered about the sending off and injury. My problem was the amount of shots Valencia had throughout the game. 41 shots - that's almost a shot every 2 minutes, you must admit this is utterly ridiculous. IRL just a few weeks back Liverpool beat Besiktas 8-0, a complete thrashing I think you'll agree and even with such a one sided game as that Liverpool still only managed a meagre 27 shots (19 on target, 8 off target).
I'm sorry but this just isn't acceptable, I was only down to nine men and my guys just seemed to stop trying. The game seemed possessed, every other second a Valencia attacking highlight. It was just wrong and a very, very poor simulation of a game of football. I'm afraid it put me off so much I don't even feel like playing FM08 again.
I only bought the game a week ago when I saw it was going for 15 snots, for 15 snots I thought, "I'll take chance".
But from what I've read in many other posts and forums and reviews of the game I'm not the only one saying so. The match engine is SERIOUSLY flawed. The shots per goals ratio is staggeringly inacurate. The game is just a mess. This really is a substandard release and I, for one, am a very unhappy customer.
Thank you and good day. :thdn:

Yes, i agree and i have the same feeling about the game engine. The strange thing is that it doesn't happen in every game but seems that some particular combinations of offensive and defensive tactics trigger it.
