Do something different then your usual FM career. Try going to a Eastern European league or to some other place in the world that catches your fancy.
For me, it's always been too easy to manage in England's leagues which is why I don't manage in England anymore. Eastern Europe managing is very fun and challenging but maybe that's because that's my biased opinion.
Managing in the Scandinavian nations is fun. Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. Take your pick. Norway is a particular favorite of mine.

Or start from the bottom with a blue square team.
Try another country, you decide, it's your game.
Doing the above gives me zilch to aim for, in picking your fave/best team leaves you nothing to aim for in my opinion. I start in league 1 or 2, and try to 'earn' the job that I highly desire!
More managerial skill and patience needed, the question is, do you have the above attributes to get your dream job on merit!?
In my game i started with Charlton in the Championship, had a couple of yo-yo seasons went to Middlesbrough for a season and now im at Valencia. Having great fun so far.
I love German league since it only has 18 teams and 1 domestic cup. So there're at least 4 less matches you need to play. It's also one of the top leagues.
Lower division also isn;t that tough to get your team promoted since they tend to lose a lot of points.
Even top teams tend to drop points often. While in EPL, Serie A or La Liga, the big teams always win.
Try playing with real players turned off. I do and the experience is exhilarating!! Nothing like uncovering a gem on your own merits, not just because you know of him in real life!
