If the board accepts a bid, you can offer the player a new contract and hope your offer is better than the one he's getting from the bidding club.

Just out of interest, has anyone who has had this happen bid for the player that was just sold, ie. chairman sells Fabregas for £20 million stating the offer was too good to refuse, next day your chairman backs you with a bid of £25 million for Fabregas????? just to add to the realism of course!

I'm managing Forest and am currently on my third season. We're in the Championship. We were promoted in the first season, then finished mid-table in the second and on course for mid-table / playoffs currently. The chairman has just accepted a load of bids for Chris Cohen, who's one of our star players, and he's now agreed a transfer, despite offering him a massive contract (by Forest standards) to stay.

It happened to me a lot in 2007 with Lincoln City, but so far the only time it's happened with this year's version was with a guy I had on transfer list for $500K and the board accepted a $350K offer. The guy was only valued at 50K, but my coaching staff said he would be decent in the Prem and I've got Stockport currently in the thick of the promotion race in League 1 after winning League 2 in my first year. I play with fake players in case anyone was wondering.
