Please could somebody tell me a simple step by step guide to installing skins on a mac. Despite numerous attempts I keep failing to find certain things such as how to extract to...

And I have read all of the guides to how to do it, i just need to know how to do it right from step 1, and without assuming u know how to do some things.

If you don't know how to extract a .zip file then you are gonna be in trouble. If you honestly can't do it then find someone who can.

Skins (or indeed graphics) come in '.zip' or '.rar' format. These are compressed files to make them smaller. You need to decompress them.

Mac's support .zip out of the box but for .rar you'll need something like stuffit expander (google it) so install it first if using .rar files.

Now I've never used a Mac but people often say how easy they are to use. I suspect if you open a .zip file or a .rar file by clicking (double clicking) on it there will be options to decompress/unzip/extract somewhere on the screen that appears. Or control click the file and that might bring up some options one of which is bound to be extract.

Once you've got this sorted it's simple. FM07 should have created a directory in your user data folder (I'm not a mac user so I don't know where this is). Find it and there should be a folder called 'skins' move the whole file you just extracted into that folder. Run FM07 and make sure 'use skin cache' in unticked in 'preferences'. Shut FM, reload. The skin should be in the dropdown list now. choose the skin, press confirm. You skin should be loaded. Now re-tick use skin cache.

For graphics just make your own folder in the main FM user data folder. eg '3rd party graphics' then sort out your own directory structure to keep things organanised (you could put them all in one big file but it'd be messy). As long as files have a config.xml and are in the FM user data folder the game will load them (use the untick skin cache method as above).

how do you give the files a config.xml? i know there's a program you can run, but is it compatable with mac?

Just open an existing one (download a facepack) and edit it to fit your faces. xml files open with any text editor. Once open it's fairly self explanitory. You just need the unique ID for the player (tick 'show unique id's' in FM preferences).

it works on some but not on others. i sized them all the same. some just show the bottom of the picture.

Never made facepacks myself but I seem to recall having to set the opacity to 99% (ie so it's 1% see through) so it isn't quite solid.
