That tactic looks very interesting Ackter, how has it gone for you result wise? Also what are your mentalities/D Line/Closing Down etc?

Ackter - so what sort of percentages are you getting home and away?
And who do you normally start with?

Typical result as Newcastle, though I usually get better possession than this, sometimes up to 68% depending on the opposition of course.
Showing the mentalities and general tactic. Note this isn't my strongest team, but Emre will always be my first choice DM set as playmaker.
Showing the general team instructions. Mentality and Creative freedom are all set individually (most players have low creative freedom, the DM and MCs are mid-slider).

Looks quite solid, especially in the defense. Who gets most of the goals/assists? Do the wingers get involved in the offensive play much?
Also which position in your playmaker?

Oh I also got the impression that you were playing the Wingers further up the pitch?

I am, that screenshot was taken before I set the MC's mentalities (I dropped them a few clicks) - didn't actually notice until I'd posted the pic here.
I'll post screenshots from my demo half-season once I'm done.

Overall I'm quite pleased. A few too many draws againt lower-placed teams cost me.

Tis interesting. If I may......
Akter is getting so much possession in part down to the Closing Down bug. He is playing a low mentality system which will keep the ball bouncing around the defence and midfield until reward outweighs the risk in any forward move. In FM07 this would have ususally guaranteed decent possession, but not the extent it seems to be doing in FM08. The reason for such extreme possession stats (68%!!!!) relates to the buggy closing down. Because he is playing deep his players (low mentality, deep d-line) are never going to be put under any pressure once in possession (opposition CAN'T close down!!!) and they can play the ball around at will without the hint of a challenge.
When going forward his chances are likely to be good ones (reward outweighing risk) but he will struggle to beat equally defensive minded sides (hence his draws with lower ranked sides) because he will never be in the position to overload their defence. To do that you have to play with a higher mentality and further up the pitch, which will automatically cause you to have less possession. You will lose the ball as moves break down in the congested space near the opposition's penalaty area but be unable to get it back due to the Closing Down issues.
So, Akter, it suggests that the problem you have in beating poor sides is simple: It's your tactics!
(Sorry, couldn't resist )

I blame Abdoulaye Faye tbh
He cost me one goal every time he played, ironically due to rushing forward and closing down on-coming attackers |
