Not sure if there is a definitive method for selling players for big money.
All depends on how well he plays, how long leave him to develop.
I find a decent way to make money on young players on their first full time contract is to loan them to an affiliate or other club and hope they play well, raising their value by a good 100-200k (if they develop and play well), then when hey return, involve them in some high profile friendlies, transfer list and wait for bids.
Altho, ive found that its sometimes hard to get more than the value for players that are not playing regularly.
If you are saying you want to sell a player for as much as possible there are 2 ways to go about it.
1st, if you want to sell a player, transfer list him, set his value at £0. If a club makes an offer for him, see how many other interested teams there are. If there are quite a few, 5+, then negotiate the fee to £0 up front with the rest over 24 months. So if you had a player, lets say was worth 5million, when a club made an offer for him I would negotiate and tell them I wanted £0 up front with 6million over 24 months. Sometimes the club won't pay that, but if you have a few interested clubs then one of them might bite.
The other way is if you don't want to sell a player. I had Patric Evra for United. Sevilla enquired about him, and although I didn't want to sell him, it stated that he wanted to talk to them. So, I told Sevilla I wanted 5million up front and 30million over 24 months. They met that valuation and I sold him for 35million.
Generally if you want to get the most you can for a player, you have to allow the buying club to pay over 24 months.

Offer him to clubs at 0 + 40mil over 24 months + 50%.
If no offer is received, then 0+ 38mil over 24 months + 50% of next sale.
Rinse and repeat...
For my pool team i managed
Gerrard 18mil +40mil + 50%
alonso 7.5 + 40mil + 50%
riise 0+ 28mil + 50%

I used this method at Villa - nad made a lot of money - Craig Gardner = 40mill over 12months to Bolton
Sold Andrea Carracciolo to Portsmouth for 500k upfront with 10m over 18 months and 2.5m after 20 league goals. Also had a 15% of next sale. Good deal, don't you think?

Surely this means that you dont get any money up front and therefore have limited transfer funds???
