Alrite lads, just wondering on your thoughts, help, and opnion on my current Aston Villa team. I feel that i have a strong squad but am stuggling in the league and finished 14th and now in my second season i am struggling to do any better. What can i do in order to fix this?
If you mean you have Coloccini... he is very good, so is C.Davies. I would pair them up as centre pair. Try getting another class CB such as Samba/Zapata etc... easy to get good CB's. That will give you option of using coloccini as ur RB if you need.
Midfield looks reasonable atm.
I think your attack is the weakest link atm.... easy fix if you only need 1 striker. Depends on you tactics. I play target man with attacking mid, wingers and 2 cm's. Basically means i dont need 4 strikers, but just 2 good ones.
Harewood is a mule, i would sell if you can get a quid
Dunno about the other three but they all seem pretty weak.
Asamoah Gyan is immense for me.
Gabriel Torje can play right wing and backup as striker
Saivet will be awesome
Sobis is very good
Podolski is great and gets cheap if Bayern dont play him due to Klose/Toni
Tip: if you find that one of them is doing well, it might be good to sell him at an inflated price rather than build your team around him. I sold Rolando Bianchi (man city) halfway through first season for 20mil pounds because he had a ripper start to the season.
Defense - Get rid of Knight and Mellberg, Davies can be a DC and then sign another. I like Landro Gioda from Independiente, hes always good and I had him on my Aston Villa side too. For right back I'm not sure, I had Cassani on my Villa side but hes probably expensive in the 2nd season. Maybe try Paulo Ferrari or Leonardo Ponzio from River.
Midfield - Gotta play VDV as an AMC instead of a MC. If hes still available, try to get Piatti as a backup for VDV. I'd also think about getting a DM into your formation, playing a 4-4-2 diamond. Reo Coker can be trained to play as DM and then sign someone like Jean II Makoun or Jeremy Clement does well for me.
Forwards - Moore and Agbonlahnor are both good but Carew isn't fast enough for my tastes. Some people say you shouldn't play 2 similar strikers together, I on the other hand have the best success playing 2 pacey strikers together with throughballs to medium or often for them and midfielders both.
Also try playing Farfan as a striker, I had him on my Aston Villa side as a winger too but moved him to a striker after some injuries and he was amazingly good.
If you ask me, its upfront that lets you down - try palacio or falcao, Moore's worth holding on to but the rest are mot up to it.
Maloney is not bad out wide, good at pens and free kicks.
It might sound obvious but be thorough with things like corner takes and free kick takers, remember its not just about shots. I always finish top of the goals from corners / indirect free kicks and have a player on the edge of the box with good long shots - vdv would be perfect.
Your team looks not bad, enough to get uefa cup so it could just be some small changes needed.
Do you scout much? With villa your gonna need to find some young gems as the top clubs will always win the bids for the good players.
I like playing with villa, just finished my 3rd season and won the league.
Oh yeah - dont get rid of cahill - he's awesome, play him and davies together and yougot a quality centre back partnership.
