Whether the manager of Braintree would come on a trial to you is another matter.

Not sure I made my initial point clear - I'm currently managing Braintree, anyway it aws all a mute point because he was absolutely horse* which is a poor indictment on the fellow because my existing keeper is a short fat bloke with bad knees & i think a depth perseption problem.

Surely if it's a mute point he'd have been absolutely hoarse?

While absolutely not slagging Barside for his inappropriate use of "mute"...

One thing that really annoys me is the erroneous use of "bad" in "bad wire".

There was a programme on TV called "Real Men", about dangerous jobs, and one of the guys said he'd fallen from a pylon onto bad wire...what, it was rotten? Corroded? It robbed banks? ...how was it bad, you ignoramus?

Let me explain.

The correct phrase is "It's a moot point". He said "mute".

The correct term is "barbed-wire". He said "bad-wire".

It's like the number of times you'll hear people say "all that glitters is not gold", etc.

Misuse of our fine English language, and the clichés within, does in me old noggin.

It's a "Grumpy Old Man", thing...I thought you, of all people, would understand

People say "bad-wire" instead of "barbed?"

That's just deficient, mentally.

In fairness, it is pretty bad if you fall onto barbed wire.

"All that glitters..." always makes me cringe, but the worst is always the illiterate "would of/could of/should of".
