Medium database, most leagues in Western Europe + Scandinavia loaded (and Russia, don’t ask me why). Latest patch.
Didn’t have access to internet when the game started, so invented my own random generator: Started as unemployed, applied for all clubs in the bottom divisions and a dice decided I should take the 6th that offered me a job.
This turned out to be Benevento in Serie C2/C who gave me a rolling contract with promise an extension if I could get them promoted.
Squad: Horrible. Loads of over-paid has-beens and possibly the worst goalkeeper in the league. Highlights were DM/AM LRC (Penalty Master) and ST (From Unknown Country) who were clearly the team’s best players.
Stadium: Good, 25k but only fills it to 1/5 for league games.
Economy: Going downhill, main cause being a big wage budget.
2006/7 Serie C2/C
Board and Supporters: Promotion
Media: 7th (not a good sign)

As predicted, we struggled a lot with the sub-par squad. Our goalkeeper was an outright hazard. With no budget our only signings was a few free back-up players but some loanees made us sure we would always have players.
However, a trade offer worth 20k + a CB for our best winger gave us some money which got us a GK and a LB. Lack of options in midfield and attack was evident, so we spend the remainder of the money (14k) on a AM LRC who could play anywhere in the midfield and up front.
Slow start, but end of season was good. Finished 4th, which got us into a play-off position and a way to save my neck. Semi-final was against Potenza and a 4-0 win at home allowed us to rest players in the away leg.
Final: Benevento vs. Andria Bat.
In the league we had two major losses against Andria, so no big hopes. Started bad when they scored after 15 minutes in the home leg. But, 33rd minute a two-footed tackle from one of their players let us play 11 vs. 10 and Striker from Unknown Country saves the day with 2 goals.
In the Away leg we battle bravely and keep it at 0-0 to half-time but in the 60th minute they score. Given the rules of the playoffs (the team with the best league position wins in the case of a draw) we had to attack. In the 86th minute the AM LRC we bought gets hold of the ball after some corner pinball and with a deflected shot he equalizes and we hold on to get promoted!

Sent all our loans home, cleared out half the squad and signed loads of players. Small transfer money thanks to clearing up the budget and getting rid of over-paid player so Uber-Ninja ST and Promising GK join as well as Grumpy African DC, DM who joins for free. Also quite a few free youngsters and back-up players. Thought I’d be able to finish mid-table or so but was quite wrong…
Finished 1st after the three above together with the 2 good players from previous season pulled the team through. Uber-Ninja wins Top Scorer (22), Best signing, and Player of the Year in the league. GK concedes 14 goals through-out the whole season and Grumpy African has a 7.47 Average. Striker from Unknown Country contributes with 20 goals and 11 assists and get Fans Player again. Penalty Master scores 7 goals and leads the league in Tackle average.
In the Cup we do well despite fielding fringe players until we reach the semi-final but in the final we get trashed 1-3 and 0-3.
We sell a Spanish Platini youngster late in the season which gives us plenty of money.
CL: Arsenal
Euro 2008: Turkey beat Switzerland 1-0 in the Final…
2008/9 Serie B
League:4th 21W, 10D, 11L56/39+17
Cupsrew a Serie A team in the first round and is promptly knocked out.
Board and Supporters: Avoid relegation

Not high expectations myself, mainly to avoid the drop and begin to consolidate to challenge for promotion in 2-3 seasons. Was offered the job for a few national teams, including my own country but declined. It was tempting and not completely unreasonable but I’ll save that for another time when it is more logical.
As expected, during the summer we get headhunted with Uber-Ninja being co-owned by a big Serie A club which gave us money to invest into more players, GK being sold by chairman for £1.5M to Palermo and Grumpy African immediately demanding to be on the transfer list (although he isn’t sold until late spring).
We do a lot better than expected, although a slow start forces us to add a permanent DM to our tactics which consolidates us and a surge of 17 undefeated games towards the end of the season puts in a play-off position but we lose in the semifinals, being outplayed completely.
Striker from Unknown Country gets Fans Player again but Uber-Ninja keeps putting away the goals and becomes top striker with 15. Surprise of the season is young Spanish DM who makes the team and plays brilliantly through-out the whole season, making the loss of Grumpy African quite nice (as he was by far the highest paid player). Sadly he the Spaniard is also sold by our chairman.
We get the board to agree to training and youth expansion, and start bringing in players. They are too many to mention as now the only remains of the starting team is the two good players and Penalty Master is on his way out. We effectively cycled through 3 players on lots of positions. Our non-EU player is a Croatian winger. During the season we give plenty of time to youngsters and try to build up a solid squad. This is however ruined by our chairman who keeps selling our young talents (for good money, but still).
The money lets us keep investing and our newfound ability to scout Eastern Europe and Scandinavia brings is some quality players (cheaply) and at the end of the season we have a two good players for every position having cleared out the deadwood and have a youth team filled with promising players (who win their league with a massive margin). We sign our most expensive player so far, paying 800k for a Brazilian U21 goalkeeper from the Portuguese league to cover the loss of Promising GK.
So hopefully we could push for a promotion intentionally next season, but knowing what normally happens we will hit rock bottom quickly and struggle to avoid relegation like I do every second season in a league.
The play-off final that saved my skin and let me continue with the team. Seldom has such a bad goal been so beautiful.
Promising GK scoring a late equalizer (first time I’ve seen a goalkeeper score).
Right back scoring from 55 yards on a cross.
Funny things:
Man U go to Stamford Bridge for a CL quarterfinal and wins 5-1. However, rematch at Old Trafford and Italian National Striker puts 6 behind them to take Chelsea to the semi.
Turkey winning the Euro Champs?
Milan beating Inter in the 2008/9 CL final (what a match that would have been IRL).
Watford is relegated in the 2006/7 season, is taken over by a certain Swedish former England Manager who promptly gets them promoted in his first season and into CL in the 2008/9 season (finishing 4th).
Sorry for the long post, have been writing this piece by piece so might have dragged out on it a bit. I also had a massive stop to playing a bit into season 2 as exams got in the way and consequently I forgot the details of what I did in the beginning so I wrote when I remembered which explains why it is so much.
I promise to make the following updates a lot shorter. Will get the next done as soon as I get back from vacation and parental visit.
Wasn't referring to how they post (except in the sense that I guess many, but not all, GQers also are GPGers), but the fact that GPG is worse in sense of mere stupidity of actually looking up present or future great players so they can win in the game.
The whole idea still baffles me, its cheating in a video game. Whats the achievement of winning when you know details like that? One of the main points of a game is beating it fair and square, if I can't I'll admit the developers made a good job.
GQers might be illiterate, illogical and mainly just ranting and flaming, but that is still in my opinion better than actively cheating for your own satisfaction (as occasionally something good comes of GQ, but can't see that coming from GPG).
