I'm more for quality than quantity, by qulaity I mean absolute carp.

I play windowed and i hate scrolling. Therefore my squads are quite small as well.

20-30 players.

When the injury epidemic hits it hits hard, usually between 5-9 players out at a time.

22 players. I try to have a replacement for each position. I also don't sign players unless I know that a current player is going to leave - either on a transfer or contract running out.

Exception to the rule: if I see a talent, I'll sign him and stick him into the reserves for a year or two, and will try to make room for him. Also, if I don't have a reserve squad, I'll put up a 3rd goalkeeper in the main squad.

So my squad is 24-26 players usually.

I usually have about 24 players = 2 for every position plus a couple of extras. I have a reserve squad with younger players, expiring (carp) players and loans in (carp) and out (carp and prospective) plus good players getting back to fitness/maintaining match practice.

I think this is partly due to the whole scrolling thing, plus the knowledge that any more makes it difficult to maintain squad happiness. Having to scroll up and down means that I'll be forced to play all of those players and keep them happy. 24 players fit in the window and I can rotate them enough to stop disenchantment.

Usually around 22 players. This may be more than IRL, but then again, injuries don't hit as hard in IRL.

I always go over my limit of 22 though, as when I need reinforcements in a certain compartment, I tend to forget I already signed 3 players who will play there, but will only come in the transferwindow, so I end up buying say 8 central defenders at once.
