Default BEWARE - Player Naming

Avert your gaze if you can't handle a player's surname.

I have a player (not unusual), he scored a goal (more unusual), he's a Polish bloke (not unusual in Poland, more unusual in the YooKay, although not so unusual in reality)

I had a line came up in commentary that had me choking on my coffee.

"The crowd chant Wawrzynczok's name!"

How?

Excellent, although I had trouble finding the joke at first, since I'm perfectly able to pronounce that name. Then it deemed on me that others might choke on their tongues.

I'm usually quite proficient at pronouncing Polish surnames, Ollie, but that one has me beat

Any chance of telling me phonetically?

I'd guess "Vavrinchock"?

Almost.

The rz is pronounced as a very soft "sh"-sound. Imagine the French sound for a "J"-letter.

the cz is a hard "tsh" sound, like the "ch" in "check".

So, it's Vavshinchock.

I realise this is asking a hell of a lot, but can you post it written in Polish, with the characters and stuff?

I never knew, after all these years of being employed by and working with Polish guys, that "rz" was pronounced "sh".

Rzite!
