It could be a tough switch, with my Southern ways I may never adapt. Perhaps this is why i've never managed in the conference north.

Mini Update

We're now 9 points adrift at the bottom of the table, with 13 games to go. I know that's plenty of time to close the gap, but in reality it'll be plenty if time to widen it.

I'm really cursing my good season last year in league 2. I should never have been able to get promotion to league 1 straight away, and it's almost as though the game is now correcting its mistake but ensuring I get relegated back to L2.(Disclaimer, I know the game is not actually doing that. It just feels like it.)

And then for a result completly out of the blue (and also completly meaningless in terms of helping me avoid the drop), I was drawn against fellow L1 team Barnsley in the FA Cup(s suck ass) 3rd round. They were sitting 10th in the league, and fielded a full strength side. We received a red card just 14 mins into the game and then went on to win 2-0???

Care to give us one single, valid reason why you came in here?
(There are many more GPG posts previous to his single one here).

I found it a piece of ****. I was missing out in/on the playoffs in the South, for some reason got moved North (the Government must have moved Essex) and walked it with 100 points.

However, the question remains,

Is it better to get stuck and once in a blue moon gain promotion, or yo-yo up and down?

(as it happens in nations with less leagues, like Spain).

The biggest exceptions are the ones from the New Continent, where the running average can see some major aquaplanning or some major escapes from relegation...

ARGH.. the agony is too alluring.

The Conference National is quite hard but still manageable. There are more frustrating leagues where promotion is harder. (Brazil for example).

~5 years isn't too much to stay in the same division. Compared with the progress, real life clubs make, it might be even too little - a compromise that is just fine, since after all it's just a game.

Brazil is the wustest, because the state league lulls you into a false sense of security before div 3 whacks you with a lump of 4X2.

I'd definitely agree with the above.

I also think that the reason for this is - there are only 2 promotion spots, so teams have to battle harder to get out. So, you have to be real good to win the thing. Once you have, your squad is much stronger and capable of competing with League 2 teams.

I've just thought about that. In Real Life, teams like Macclesfield, Wycombe and a couple of others have gone from Conference to League 1 in 2 successive seasons, so the game is quite accurate in that respect.

That is all

I find one difficulty of being promoted is that the game doesn't recognize you as a promoted team (for transfer reasons), until mid June in England. This makes it harder to get players early on. Also, you usually have to sort out the wage bill, as the promotion raises kick in. If you have a tight fisted Chairman (as I do at mighty Alferson), then this makes it all the harder. He gave me a whopping 5K more a year of wage budget, and did not take the club professional. Whoopie! This is gonna be a fun year in the conference.
