Well - I know that LLM Rules state that scouting should be the way to go when we buy players, but there are two methods I have thought about, none of which I have yet to use, due to fear of LLM assault, but I think at least one could be realistic.
1. Personal Scouting - Where you watch the games a team plays in yourself - Check out a whole performance of a player or two and without consulting scouts you buy them.
2. Taking the team with you - If you get sacked or decide to change clubs can you take some of your old players and staff without consulting the scouts?
I am doubtful of the 1st one, but think the second one is fine, am I right?
I'll deal with the second part 1ast, I would consider this perfectly acceptable as it regulary happens IRL.
The first part I have asked about myself, you will obviously only be able to watch a game on a non matchday for yourself so this limits your options. You also have to consider the real world cost of travel & admission to the game against your LLM salary of £100ish per week, can you really afford to do this all that often seeing as you have to eat, drink & be merry.
If i did take in a game in my local area & spotted a good looking(not in that way) player I would as my scout to take a look over him just to make sure it wasn't a one off game. Even I've looked quality on the pitch sometimes put in truth I was crap.
Other than that it does happen IRL so fair game in LLM just don't rip the p**s out of it, plus it's very, very dull & I've found better things to do with my time.
I don't think that personal scouting would even help all that much and if you can watch the game you can probably send a scout over there anyway which would be much easier and quicker.
Lots of real managers take players and trusted staff from their old clubs over with them to their new job. I think its officially allowed by LLM rules too as knowledge gained from the same save as you are playing.
I do just fine without any of these, so it wouldnt suit me anyway
Also - People seem to agree with at least one of them, which quite frankly I didnt think they would, so just because I think something could be wrong, doesnt mean to say that its not the LLM way of playing.
The majority of people who use the idea of self-scouting are using a sophistic argument to make an excuse to view various clubs. You will find that the majority of them are scouting clubs at least 2 divisions higher with an aim to get free transfers/loans
