Impressive! I'm really struggling playing Foligno. Trying desperately to avoid relegation in my first season although I'm still only in February.

Rest Of The World Update
World Cup 2010:
Group stages : Germany and Czech Republic are the only big teams to drop out here. Saudi Arabia win the coveted 'No Points, No Goals' award.
Second Round : Mexico are beaten by Portugal in extra time. The other big team to drop out are Italy whose coma-inducing match against Holland ends with penalties.
Q/Finals : Argentina 1 - 0 Brazil (lucky) ; Holland 2 - 1 Portugal ; Ecuador 2 - 1 France (deserved, however strange). Oddest of all is Spain time-wasting their way through their 2-0 defeat to England; they started off doing it, and even going 2 goals down didn't stop them. Hmmm.
S-Finals : Argentina 6 - 0 Ecuador (having 2 players sent off didn't help, but the AI got its tactics horribly wrong ; Holland 2 - 3 England.
3rd/4th Playoff : Holland 5 - 0 Ecuador (3 red cards did the damage this time)
Final : Argentina 0 - 2 England.

EURO Cup:
2006/7 : Valencia 0 - 2 FC Bayern
2007/8 : Everton p1 - 1 Brondby
2008/9 : Man Utd 1 - 0 Paris
2009/10 : Feyenoord 5 - 3 Partizan

Champions Cup:
2006/7 : Milan 2 - 1 Arsenal
2007/8 : Barcelona p1 - 1 Chelsea
2008/9 : Arsenal 3 - 1 Chelsea
2009/10 : Inter 2 - 1 Arsenal

No huge surprises in the leagues, although AA Gent winning 3 successive titles might raise an eyebrow. Huddersfield, Romorantin and Siegen have both won 2 promotions to make it into the top flight - Siegen having already been relegated / promoted out and back into the Bundesliga. Lorca made the jump to the Spanish First Division only 5 years after being founded.

And finally, spare a thought for poor old San Marino. Still the worst national team in Europe, without a goal in 4 years.

At the risk of appearing to be a potbooting poof (heaven forbid), I have some news to report:

Clearly my failure to progress year-on-year with a team is impressing people in power because with an Unproven reputation and without having applied for it, I've just been offered the Italian national job.

Dot. Dot. Dot.

It's because you're the only manager in Italy who isn't up on a corruption charge

Season 5: FOligno, Italy Serie C1/B
28 players left in the summer - most of them were kicked - and 12 joined. All our major signings were Bosmans from French clubs with the exception of an Italian DLC who'd annoyed me while on loan at a rival club previously. My non-EU signing went on a Bulgarian ST who was pants. The board took out a loan to cover our debt which gave me just enough moolah to spend a whopping £7k on a ST from a non-league Italian team.

Serie C1/B: A solid start to the season had us 2nd after 12 games, which would probably have been better if teams hadn't faced us with 10 men behind the ball. '1-0 to the Foligno', as the chant presumably goes. A 1-1 draw with Foggia before Christmas was the start of a 10-match run in which we won 2, drew 4 and lost 4 - the low point being a 4-1 loss to runaway leaders Sambenedettese (with their obligatory plethora of loanees). A much stronger field than previous seasons made the run-in fairly tense, although an undefeated streak left us needing 2 points from our last 3 games to secure a Playoff spot, a task we managed.
You'll have to imagine my joy at being drawn against the dreaded Arezzo in the Playoff Semi-Final. We lost 3-2 harshly in the away leg and a 16th minute goal from our Austrian ST (now a full international) set up 74 minutes of what I assumed would be squeaky-bum stuff. Strangely, Arezzo just defended and we won on higher league position to face Taranto in the Final. A 4-0 win in the first leg became a 5-0 lead after 24 minutes and it was so easy after that I even had time to give my most promising FRED a 25 minute debut at the end.
Final Position: P:34 W:16 D:12 L:6 GD:+21 Pts:60 Pos:3rd. Promotion!

Serie C Cup: Qualifying easily from the group stage, we drew Val di Sangro - who we beat easily - and then Taranto - who we should have beaten easily. Yawn.

Italian Cup: Knocked out by AlbinoLeffe straight away. Harshly.

U-20s: I took control at the start of the season, leading the spotty brats to the League title with a couple of games to go. The big news, however, was getting my grubby hands on some silverware at last, as the motley bunch stormed through the U-20s Cup, beating Cesena (Serie A) in the Semis to set up a 4-0 demolition of Juventus in the Final. Boo-yah!

Losing my best ML in January to Pescara via a bug was annoying as his understudy left for France for a tidy sum straight afterwards. Frantic scrabbling through my scouts' lists got me a 20 year old Swiss AML/ST who filled the gap, nabbing a few goals. Amusingly, the U-20s Cup win took my Reputation to Local and the Playoff success took it to Regional. Obscure to Regional in 3 months. Hmm. My main striker got 17 goals while the Austrian picked up 10, including 6 in 6 at the end, when we needed them, but my valuable DM was easily my best and most consistent performer. Serie B beckons. Onwards and, err, upwards I guess.
