Why is that a reasonable solution? I say you keep running the job advertisements until someone comes along. Sooner or later someone does. Until then, you make due. That's how a club would do it in real life, as well.

If you never get a scout at this club, you probably will at the next one.

I think in this situation some flexibilty could be shown. We are all aware that the game isn't perfect & is subject to any flaws in the original coding, I would suggest it was not the original programmers intention that no applications would be made to a job advert placed a year before (assuming Deeman's statement is correct regarding the time scale involved, which I must).
I do not feel using the staff search facility for a single scout (anymore would be unacceptable) along with the restrictions I suggested would greatly detract from the realism we stive for.
In my earlier reply I pressed for a reason why a relaxation of LLM rules was needed & IMHO I do believe in Deeman's desire to play the game using LLaMa ethics, clarification has been asked for first rather that just beaking the rules, it is just that he has a situation that requires a return to earlier guidelines on this occassion.
I accept that some more zealous LLaMa's may not agree but I stand by my opinion on this one case.

No relaxation of LLM rules is required. There are rules and there are guidelines. We are talking about guidelines here but at the end of the day, everyone has to find his own way within the LLM spirit.
LLM has never been about telling people how to play the game.

Fair comment Cosmo, I guess my choice of words were a little too strong in respect to the question posed my Deeman. I probably should have related it more to a request for guidance on his part.

Well i didn't really want to start a debate or anything! But it seems clear to me that this sits in the guideline part of things and as such can be interpreted in different ways. I do like the whole realism angle to be honest would be partial to Guinness' oppinion of soldiering on. But also i didn't want to cripple myself for the sake of it!
Tbh i think i'm probably getting caught up in the whole thing, and i think Cosmo is right, it doesn't come across that LLM is about telling people how to play. So i think as long as i'm sensible about things like this, i'm not gonna offend many people when i post updates.

I've seen it writ that staff search may be used when all else fails in respect of a scout.
As a scout is an essential part of a LLamas' armoury I'd accept that.
For myself, I'd just keep advertising or resign but that's a personal choice.
Ian?

Job Centre
Since the huge improvement in the Job Centre in FM2007 the way to obtain Staff is to advertise in the Centre and choose Staff who apply (if they'll sign). The use of Staff Search is now frowned upon and must only be used as a last resort.
From Ian's 07 updste above.
