If you can give the player a trial, this would be the best choice.
Also, when signing players and/or assessing trialists, you can get the opinion of your assistant manager. They are usually idiots but it's at least some opinion to go by.
Do what you think would be most realistic given the circumstances you're in.

It would be better to listen to your Ass Man & coaches' advice, and also have him play at least one game to see how he does.

| Tbh i actually forgot that you can send your Ass Man (teehee) to get a report for a specific player. So i did, got the thumbs up but shortly after he played for the reserves and scored a couple so i signed him.
Another quick question, when no scouts are availible i am ok to scout players via my Ass Man (teehee) using the player search? My scout as has been running for half a season with no takers.

Deeman, think about it:
Would you go, grab a newspaper, write down a list with every football player and then tell your ass man to go and check everyone out?
What do you think, he'd say? I guess he'd call the people who'd stick you into a straight jacket.

| About 6 months should be long enough to get someone to apply.
I also quote this from the rules and guidelines thread.
"Since the huge improvement in the Job Centre in FM2007 the way to obtain Staff is to advertise in the Centre and choose Staff who apply (if they'll sign). The use of Staff Search is now frowned upon and must only be used as a last resort."

Well lets say that i've not had a single applicant all season, would that be classes as 'Last Resort'. I haven't gone anywhere near the staff search, but i thought using the player search was ok in my situation because of this from the rules;
"If you have no scouts it’s ok to use the player/staff search screen to identify players and to invite them for a trial period to ascertain whether they suit your squad."
Believe me i don't want to use the 'S' word. I just can't get me a scout!?

You can use the player search if you filter for realistic players and unattached ones and so on. Just stay away from the filters for certain attributes and so on. These things are to be assessed by your coaches/ass man reports or by results of trials and so on.
Let your conscience be your guide, Deeman. You seem reasonable to me, you'll know what is realistic and okay, and what not. It's your game, after all, and you're supposed to enjoy it .
