I would imagine a 'virtual keyboard' has been used. You'll see an on screen keyboard that you move the cursor over and press the A button on the appropriate letter. The same as when you type in song name on the Xbox 360 (if you don't use a USB keyboard that is).

The game uses the same default "virtual" keyboard that is used for Xbox Live, typing in your gamertag etc. But USB keyboards do work, which makes searching for players easier.
