A. some chairmen are unrealistic.
B. Scratch that, most chairmen aren't realistic.
On a more serious note, it may just be while the management is happy with your achivement they perceive your abitily (based on your reputation) as one that does not fit with their perception of the club (club rep) - or in other words that you have taken the club as far as your managerial abilities will allow & that someone else is needed to take the club to the next level.
While this might very well be false, it does happen (a lot) it real life. I can name quite a few examples of managers (in my country) who promoted a club only to be replaced by another manager with a better reputation.
