To all our new members... Post #31 | | Guest | New member, posting...
Hello, very swell group of Photoshoppies,
I'm new - just joined today - and I collected all my courage and decided to post a "hello" post - just so I could say I did.
I live on a really remote sheep farm and have very little contact with the "outside world" and even less with other graphics people / photographers. I have snooped around today and absolutely LOVE the atmosphere here at Photoshop Guru's - so nice to see friendly folk and the quality of the website / information is gonna keep me coming back often.
I think we learn best in a supportive community like this, and although I'm a mere "junior apprentice", I hope that I might have something to add to the discussions - even if it's only cheerleading from the sidelines. I guess everyone loves to laugh, and looks like you guys (us gals included) have great sense of humor - you've brightened my day and I hope I can return the favor sometime.
So there! I posted within an hour of registering for the discussion group! I'm not a particularly brave person, but I know this will be the first thing I read on the web, every time I log on. I'm so glad I found you!!!!
One question. - I know avatars are small graphics files that can be inserted under a user's name. I would like to personalize my avatar, but I don't know what image size to use, etc. Could someone point me to the "How to insert a personal avatar" tutorial...or just go ahead and tell me?
Tanks,
mary aka sheepdip

Welcome, welcome Mary. What nice of you to write this great introduction, we really appreciate that. I don't think that I have to tell you how positive the atmosphere is on this board; you probably discovered that yourself after reading a few of our threads. Posting on a board like this is for some of us not always an easy step, but I can assure you that we make you feel right at home after the first few posts Feel free to ask any questions you might have, join discussions or challenges, always knowing that we treat everybody with the same respect, regardless their experience.
Since you have a question about how to post an avatar, I added an attachment that explains it all in detail; [list][*]click on user cp[*]click on Edit Options[*]click on Change Avatar[*]go to the section You can upload an avatar from your computer[*]click on the browse button[*]select you file on your hard drive[*]click on open[*]click Submit Modifications[/list:u]
The maximum size of the avatar is 75 by 75 pixels and the file size should be kept under 10 KB. If you have any more questions, just let us know.
It's also advisable to read our Frequent Asked Questions (FAQ) section ( http://www.photoshopgurus.info/forum...?s=&action=faq ) which answers most questions that you might have.
Again, nice to have you on board [righton]

Hey good stuff G, thanks for helping Mary out. Mary...
Welocme to the community, hope you decide to stick around for awhile, and hope you enjoy your time with us.
As Gaussian stated, we're a friendly and humorous bunch, and you're welcome anytime to join in the festivities as you so choose to. OR, you can just chat about anything you like actually. We have a multitude of boards to use here that all have their own specific functions. Use them as much as you like.
I'll start you out like Gaussian did, with some helpful info: 1) If you should decide to attach an image to a message, take note that the maximum pixel size should be no more than 640 wide. The height can be whatever though. I did this specifically to facilitate those who create mini-tutorials using an image to show the instructions. 2) Maximum file size of a single attachment can be up to 150kb ( per message). 3) And the maximum amount of images put into any one message can be 10.
Hope that helps make things easier for you to get started. And don't worry about memorizing all this info either. It will always be here for reference in this thread.
Cya round! |

Well thanks for the very nice welcomes!
Ha ha ha - I did an avatar!! [bustagut] I can hardly believe it, but Gauss, that info on avatars was right on target! I'll probably do a better one, but I just *had* to try it out...right?
Thanks to you too, Keeper. This is just a fantastic site and a great group of discussioneers. I'm not the sharpest tool in the drawer, but with all these friendly and helpful folks, I feel confident that I will learn and chuckle a lot!
Looking forward to being a part of it all. Thanks again for tips and for the welcome.
Mary

No, seriously (I told you ) It is always good to interact with others, especially in this field.
What a gift, the net, and such places: we are so close thanks to it!
Thanks Mark, once again!

Thanks for the nice welcome notes!
I agree with you Pierre, this is a bona fide gift - a place to meet up and join other PS users - even for those of us who live too far from civilization, to get together and share face to face.
I looked at the "Meet Up" locales closest to me, and although I do think it's a great idea, the closest location for me is over 150 miles away, so I'd either have to get a hotel room to participate, or drive back to the farm in the wee hours of the morning. This is just infinitely better!
Thanks Mark, for such a well designed and maintained board for us to use and for the super tutorials. I'm rushing to go through them all before they go on CD and cost $300. (Mah mamma din raise no foo!)
Well, back to studying. Thanks to all for the nice notes. It means a lot to me.
Mary

150 miles! man that is a long way to walk he he he my next door neighbour was just over the next hill (when I was growing up) and I thought that was bad enough but then we weren't a station just a farm I hated that isolation then can't imagine how you must feel [confused]
