Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default End of season syndrome

I've suffered from this for as long as I've played FM, and quite frankly I'm sick of it, so this is an ask for help.

I always start the season well. I'll get to 1st place and stay there for months, get a nice points gap between me and 2nd place.

Then for some reason when it gets nearer the end of season my performances take a dramatic turn for the worst. I stop winning most matches and am lucky to get a draw, and naturally other teams overtake me and I miss out on the title. For example, this season I was 1st for about 5 months, now with 12 games to go Arsenal have a 9 point lead and I'm struggling in 3rd place.

Any ideas what the problem is?

Did you try squad rotation? I know most of yous players will have around 90% fitness but their performances can still suffer. If there is a player going through a bad run off form then you might consider dropping them for one game.

Squad rotation is really important I think. I had the same problem with having the team dip quite heavily at the end of the seasons when the results was most important. After I started to rotate my players more, using promising youth players or players the Assistant Manager valued as potentional "good" players, things started to look alot better.

Something I am trying to do (unless injuries prevents it) is to rotate one player on each position each game. Depending on what team you got, your squads depth can of course bigger or smaller but try and sit out with the best players in "easy" games or cup games (depends on your teams board expectations ofc).

Have a go with that and see if it improves your situation.

That seems like it would most likely be the problem. I tend to stick with the same starting 11 for most of the time.

for rotation i use player moral, if they are 'okay' or lower it's normally because he's been on the bench or out all together for a while. bring him in and drop a player who is 'superb' or 'very good'

you can rotate your players and keep them all happy and fit

if a player get 2 six in a row I drop him to bench .. then the next game I expect him to perform during teamtalk.. seems to work especially for 1st teamer.
