Okay, before everyone tells me to look at tactical tips by cleon etc, I already have. My situation is this. Ever since I played champ man on the Amiga I have always started with a crap team and tried to work my way up through the leagues. Unfortunatly I now have a real job and so don't have the time. For instance with FM07 I started with Scarborough in Confrence North and got them to league 1 but because I don't have much time to play thats as far as I got before FM08 was released. I have decided therefore to start with a premiership club, Newcastle. Now I have finished my first two seasons in 3rd. Very good I hear you say. Well its not. These two third positions have been quite fluky and until the last 10 games of both seasons I was on course for about 7th until I had magnificent end of season form. Last season and this I was supposed to be challenging for the league according to the media and I must admit I feel I should be to. After 10 league games this season I am once again in 10th. I have got a fantastic squad. Target men with unbelievable stats, defoe and owen as the little strikers. Real quality wingers and outstanding midfielders. I also have given in goal and a defence that again is outstanding bought for a lot of money. The problem is I only seem to be able to get results when playing a defensive and direct game. And not enough results to get anywhere near the top of the league. I want to play a shorter game but when I do I lose even more. If it helps I always play a deep line because every report seems to tell me to do so because every team seems to have quick strikers. I actually score quite freely, Owen was top league goalscorer last season. My problems are in defence and keeping the ball which is why I want to play a possession game. I play my central defenders not to close down because apparantly they won't get drawn out of position but everyone else is mixed closing down. Can anyone give me some tips as how to play with a target man and a quick striker and a possession games without conceding. (And not pointing me towards cleons advice cos that hasn't worked).
