Absolutely spot on.

I've been through four seasons now, playing a 4-2-3-1 formaiton with Blyth Spartans as they climb the leagues. Setting the individual instructions completely removes this problem... my two MCs run about like lunatics closing everyone down, and my high octane headless chicken defending tactics work a treat.

This bug thing has not posed a single problem for me.

Is it just me, or has the bug still not been completely fixed? Just before the patch, I set my players to always close down the opposition forwards and midfielders, and I got good results. When the patch was released, I reverted to more conservative closing down settings, and results fell away again. I've spent the whole day playing and tinkering with my tactics because I couldn't get consistent results. I just went back to my pre-patch closing down settings and the results are beginning to improve.

For me things are much better. I have different closing down settings for different types of tactics.

I agree that it's still not right or consistant.

Just won an away game with my lesser closing down tactic and everything went how it should and I won 3-1.

Next game at home, I switch to my high closing down short passing tactic and lose 5-2 with all of their goals coming from either someone walking through the defense and smashing it into the corner or everybody just backing away right back to the goalie. Very frustrating

I think the match engine is still a bit inconsistent. I'm playing with West Brom at the moment, we're relegation contenders. I'm able to go up 4-0 away at Liverpool, then squander it to draw 4-4. I'm also able to get 4-3 results away to Arsenal and Man Utd, which must mean I'm doing something right. Yet I'll play weaker teams such as Charlton, who are bottom of the Premiership at the moment (3/4 way into the season), and lose 3-0 at home. I adjust my tactics to account for weather (e.g. rain I'll play more direct) but it seems to have an inconsistent effect on results.

I don't recall FM05, 06 and 07 to be like this. It's annoying because I'm spending so much time trying to consistently win, and I don't know why I'm not able to do it. Before the beta patch, I had no idea about the closing down bug until I saw the messages on the forums. It got me really angry because I had spent so much time trying different tactics only to find out it was a bug. I really hope its not the case again with the beta patch
