It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Nothing I try works for me, my players don't even tackle when closing down and my tackling is set on hard. It's actually the most frustrating aspect of the game. I just can't enjoy the game with things the way they are and as such haven't even played it in the last few days. It's just no fun.

This has to be sorted in the patch to try and get the closing down, marking and tackling back to what it was like in FM07. It was responsive to what you wanted your team to do in the last game but in this game it's not.

The sooner the patch comes out with these improvements the better because at the moment, as I said before, the game is frustrating and no fun whatsoever to play.

With Vauxhall having tried all of the fixes mentioned in this thread, also tinkering with closing down, def line, creativity, all tackling types etc with little success. The only defender who plays well is my 36 yr old player/coach who seem to intercept everything. Maybe my players are just carp?

Your theory sounds a bit fishy to me.

The through balls are killing me, I always used to have my dm chase anyone in midfield even thinking of making a pass but it doesn't work in this version.

Now I have him on low closing down and he intercepts the passes but if someone dribbles he usually falls over himself trying to tackle them. The crosses are sorted with tight marking and closing down of 20 on the wingers, so unless I put in another def mid and get rid of a striker I can't think of how to stop the dribblers.

I'm playing a diamond with am back to cm and dm up to cm for the attack. (Black Cats)

Now that I've thoroughly confused you does anyone have any ideas?

I guess I could have the am hunting people too but he's not really suited to it and I wanted him to concentrate on attack.

Have you tried putting him on tightmarking or using the Opposition Instructions to tightmark someone?

If I tick tight marking in the team instructions, do I still have to tick tight marking in the olayer instruction and again in the opposition instrcutions?

I have the wbs and wide midfielders on tight marking, but I was worried about putting the dm on tm because he could get drawn away and leave a gap for the dribbler to come through, maybe both am and dm on tight marking? Wouldn't that mean the am wouldn't be effective at creating space and passing through to the cf's? I'll try it anyway..

Closing down is not only a function of the instructions you give but of the player attributes as well..make sure they are brave and have good teamwork. If you find that they are not covering properly then you will need to make adjustments.

Without knowing your formation..i assume its something akin to a 4132..so you need to put TM on the fullbacks and perhaps on the 2 midfielders near the flanks..leave the dm without TM but max closing down and see what happens first...if you notice your players being pulled too far apart then adjust and bring CD down.

In my opinion, it's not exactly "closing down" that is the issue, more "positional awareness" of players closing down if that makes sense.
