It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Ye I know what you mean Asmoseous.

I have'nt been playing the demo much as usually the only thing I download the demo for is to see what the setup and everything is like as well as see what players have been moved to the relevant clubs etc.

However I tried a couple of games with the team mentality style and won 5 - 1 at ho,e to middlesborough then 2 - nil at home to derby. However jsut as an experment and even though I was almost certain it would fail I tried the exact same setup away to Man City next and lost 2 - nil hardly creating 1 chance and they dominated possession and won almost every ball.

What I may try doing is implementing a counter attacking style using a similar mentality with the front five players (two FC's, MR and ML, and Fabregas) on an all out attacking mentality and the other players on an all out defensive mentality with counter attacking ticked. Perhaps with the back 5 players with direct passing to clear the ball and the front 5 still set to the usual short passing.

This is a bit of an extreme experiment as it may leave a huge gap between attack and defense but it's just the demo and nothings on the line anyway so I'll give it a try.

Cheers

The thing which has got me so hacked off that I just broke my mouse (no comments please!) is that my tactics which were so successful on FM06 and FM07 are now so ineffective on the FM08 demo.

It was a 4-4-2 with 1 central mid slightly defensive, 1 slightly attacking, short passing, slow tempo, counter attacking, individual mentalities, but it has been so inconsistent and poor on this game. That 4-4-2 got me a clean sweep of all 7 trophies once! I am struggling badly now

Thats interesting, Asmodeus, recently with my Arsenal side i have been implementing short/quick/mixed with high closing down(broken). I have been doing quite well, had it not been for the corner bug i would have beaten man city 2-1 away

@ llama3 - I agree. I mean I knew previous tactics I used would need to be altered a bit but now scrapped altogether. I think that SI really may have gone towards making the game easier by making team mentalities much more effective making things such as the rule of two and heavy individual instructions style tactics a thing of the past IMO

@ EA_mon_hello2 - You had Man city too. I've only played the demo once or twice so far but are the fixtures set on it rather than random? I'll check myself soon

Yes and i also know a lot of other arsenal gamers who have had middlesbro... derby.... man city in that order. It's definately pre-set now.

It's becuase the demos are based on quickstarts, which are essentially saevd games. That's why fixture lists are the same each time. Start a new game in the full version and they'll be generated as before.

Cheers I'll give that a go. I'm gonna experiment with an away tactic until I can dominate or at least get a majority share of possession by reloading an away game several times.

Man city could be perefcet coz they have a strong flat back four which could be hard to break down and they also have a skillful attack.

I may try this approach with my real madrid team too as they have what I like to call stiker-wingers like Robben and Robinoh who would benefit from coming inside a lot and I'm strugglimg to get a formation to fit in all their new players.

I've finished one demo and now started another (as Liverpool) - Each time i've been drawn with Sevilla in my CL group - and they've trounced me every game. It seems that if you can find tactic to beat Sevilla then you're onto something.

Anyone else have these problems against teams such as Sevilla/Valencia?

I've been using my version of a 442 and tried a 433(defensive) but to no avail.

fifa1975//

Are you sure you're in the right thread? I agree with you though, Sevilla are extremely hard to beat in the demo.

Back on topic:
I've started "playing like Arsenal" using a 4-1-3-2 formation with a split mentality. Fabregas, van Persie, Hleb and Rosicky are set three or four notches higher than the rest of the team which are at normal (11) so that Adebayor comes deep and my defensive unit act more like, well... a unit.

Hleb, Rosicky and Fabregas all have 14 in Creative freedom (and the latter two are also on free roles) with the rest of the team at 10 since I've found that my defenders tend to hoof the ball with lower CF when put under pressure. I'm trying to play possession football with a high defensive line so they will often come under pressure. Normal CF seems to take care of the hoofing issue. All my defenders have very high decision making attributes as well which helps with higher levels of CF.

Passing is set to 5 with matching tempo and normal width so that the narrow 4-1-3-2 becomes a little wider and gives my midfield a bit more room to maneuvre. Closing down is at 15 except for Fabregas, van Persie and my centre backs who are set to 10. Easy tackling for Rosicky, Hleb and my strikers while the rest are at normal.

With pre-season finished and five competitive games played using this tactic I'm really happy with my teamplay and the general look of how my players move and are set up in attacking moves. The problem is that I'm not finishing chances. Much like the real Arsenal of last season I'm creating many more chances than the opposition but can't for the life of me finish them off. I'm particularly disappointed with the finishing of my two main strikers.

What's your views on my setup? What could be improved and how can I get my strikers to score?
