For those like myself, who are still struggling vainly to make a workable tactics system, here is where I am up to in a new effort to construct something of use within the new game.
Firstly, I have completely deleted all traces of any and all previous abortive attempts. The thinking behind this is to guarantee there will be no turning back.
I've picked out one of the two in game drop down menu 4-1-3-2 tactcics. I then moved the R&L CMs to the wings, thereby making it a 4-1-3-2 wide tactic. I made sure that all the sliders on the team instruction screen were set to 10/mixed/normal or whichever you choose to call that position in the centre of the slider screen.
Next, the easy part. Get your assistant manager or your best coach to pick your first side. Therotically, it should be the best team that you can pick. Then I went to the player instruction screen. From there I just used the "set to" prompt to put each player in his default positional settings. Now I have both a formation and a tactic, albeit a very basic one which needs a few "tweaks" which I made only on the team instructions screen. I left the default players instructions as is.
The only alterations that I made to the team instructions were thus. "creative freedom" set on 5 [low]. "timewasting" also set on 5[low]. that was it. I then played my third friendly, my first two were the in game matches provided when you start a new game. They were against non league opposition. My third match was vs Dutch side Volendam.
I played this match over and over, I think that it was ten times, before I managed to beat them by 3 to 2, at home. Even then they scored in the final minute of stoppage time. Clearly, my defensive tactic for the last ten minutes does not work!
During all these repeated matches I began to alter, one click at a time various settings on the team screen. Also, altering the player instructions. That was relatively easy. The excellent rashidi1 provided the information needed to set out a reasonable defensive back four. Just take a look at some, or better still, all of his "stuff".
I now move on to my fourth friendly. I will still play it repeatedly, unless I have found the magic formula, until I hopefully, arrive at improving upon my very basic, but encouraging, initial efforts. You all now know as much as me. Isn't it sad! Kind regards to all my fellow losers!
