so i do think this formation is definately the best for VDV and will get the best out of him

I am struggling with VDV and can't find him a decent tactic to let him do his job...as of today no goals, no man of the match...nothing but 2 goals and almost always negative performances (a "6" for him it is negative for sure IMHO). I am playing Juventus, unbeaten in 1st season, using a 4-3-3 but VDV is just useless (better with Tiago-Almiron-Zanetti/Nocerino...but no fantasy and no nice AMC football...I mean like having Zizou up there )...I like the scoring of my team but don't like the football style...can you upload the .tac file so I can give it a try to see how it goes for VDV?...I don't want to get rid of him and season is almost in Jan transfer window.

Ciao Cenzo,

the previous posts (I think) all related to FM2007, where VdV was immense. In FM2008, he's been poor for me (managing HSV in second season, currently), although in season 1 he still managed 10 league goals (6 from penalties).

If you are playing FM2008, you may be suffering from the same thing I had found, which was VdV in an AMC role was taking long shots from all over the place, and missing, which lowered his stats. (There are plenty of posts elsewhere about the shots/goals ratio...)

If you are playing along both flanks, you're not really using him well, as I have found.

I currently have VdV set to:
Free Role = Yes,
Hold Up Ball = Yes,
Long Shots = Mixed,
Try Through Balls = Mixed.

Not sure I have the best settings yet and am experimenting with Direct passing, Forward Runs, Hold Up Ball = No, etc.

Won't be able to experiment for a while yet, as he just picked up a 2-month injury .

I am playing VdV as a CM with Tiago (another one that is giving me headache) on his right and both with forward arrows. A DM position filled by Zanetti or Nocerino, AML is Del Piero or Nedved or Menez. AMR is Camoranesi or Iaquinta or Marchionni. Trezeguet or Cavani or Palladino as Striker. Defensive line: GK Buffon, DR Zaccardo or Grygera, DL Chiellini or Cassani, CB Andrade or Criscito and Barzagli. It is the only tactic that works in order to fight against Inter-Milan and so far as a team they are simply doing amazingly great with 18 W 4 D 0 L in my 1st season...but simply playing a poor football style and having too many "6" within the midfield area (or "5") and am getting the best from FB, CB, and AML/AMR. I will try few tweaks and use your advice on VdV settings for about another 8-10 games and see how it goes.
