About to start my season with QPR and i'm using my own 4-1-2-1-2 formation. I feel there is not much difference in quality between the players i have in the centre compared with on the flanks. So think i'm gonna play mixed focus passing. Any recommendations on what pitch size i should go for? Many thanks in advance for your advice.

As you seem to be playing with a narrow diamond, might I suggest that you try through the middle? After just finishing my first season in '08, I have found that there are not too many wide pitches anyway.
Oh! Before you ask, I finished 19th in the Championship with Hull City. I bought only three players in. So you can see that I am not one of the "super stars" playing the game. I use my own tactics which are not too good, but what the hell, it doesn't mean I'm a bad person!

4-1-2-1-2 or diamond is my most favorite tactics. Your main attacking forces are wingers and full back, they'll run deep into opponents area, so make sure those have good crossing + pace as they'll need to run back fast.
Pitch size, I'd try to use the maximum allowed since you'd prefer direct passing than the others. Large pitch will allow players to drop the ball into the corner area and your wingers can run to get it.
Also focus passing through flanks will work better since you'll only have single AMC. You'll only have 3 players surrounded by a bunch of defenders. 2 FC and AMC, so direct pass with large pitch will best suit the formation.

depends on how good you are and tactic you're playing.
I am on a low level team, and focus on contral pass game, therefore I am on a standard field to provide largest Length/weith ratio and narrowest possible field.

longer field= your forward could get the through ball at their highest pace, as they normally faster than the central back marking them, they could get better shooting chance therefore; wider field= space, wingers and mid field got space to fire killer balls, especially long passes and crosses, and your forward got place to go when cross ball comes.
