I've tried many different tactics posted on various site and invariably they don't work, usually disastrously so. I’ve always had to tinker with them to get them to work anywhere near successfully.
I usually buy CM/FM every two years and have been playing it since the very first version, and yes I’m old enough to have played it (how many years is that). The most successful team I ever had was Notts County and started in the 4th Division (can’t remember the version but it was an early one). I still remember how I played, 5-4-1 mainly because I had very few attacking player, however I did have a young, but brilliant striker although from his stats you wouldn’t know this. He scored more goals than games he played, got the team promoted to the 1st Div in 5 seasons all with the same defensive 5-4-1 system.
Why am I telling you this well I tried to recreate the tactic many times always failing as the team was built around one player. The same concept is true with FM08, tactics fit a team you cannot fit a team to a tactic.
It does help to read tips etc, as it gives you advise on how the game plays but its your team tactic not somebody elses that you have to come up with.
Isnt always true... i love playing 4-3-3 with very wide players... so normally i try to buy 4 wingers... two good/superb ones and two backup talents/players. Then normally most teams can play 4-3-3. Same goes for 4-4-2... just about every team can play that formation. even though you dont have wingers you can make 'm run into a MC/DMC position.
