I was just wondering how FM decides what teams from the unplayable ones get promoted into the lowest league in the country. I say this because one of my friends found a club with a name that is begging to be played. GDRCS de Lamas in Portugal that is shortened to Social Lamas and play in a shocking pink home kit. Is there any way I could encourage it to promote them after a season of holiday.

Sadly no, and it does tend to choose the same ones as a general rule.
Fascinating find though, must keep an eye open now just in case
Shocking pink you say!
Perhaps we could nominate a manager for them |

I've been waiting for Winchester City to find their way to the Conference South so I can manage them, but alas I don't think it'll ever happen!

That will never happen hamster as they don't play in the Northern, Southern or Isthmian Premiers.
I would presume it is the same in any of the leagues around the globe, teams can only get promoted into a playable league from the tier of leagues immediately below it.
In addition, the game does have some bias towards certain teams getting, which I would presume is linked to those clubs having a higher reputation than the others. This is logical in the first couple of seasons, but not when you've played a few. For instance, all four teams promoted to the Conference National last season are playing in it for their first time currently.

Well I don't think so. If you look at the 'domestic' list under England, the members of the IPL, SPL and NPL on it change over time, including those who don't get promoted. This, I guess, is based on reputation, as is the promotion to the conference N/S, which can only happen from the IPL SPL and NPL. I say this because, when playing my current save, I took particular interest in one FA cup when Lg. 1 Derby won it. I ran back through the stages, and found out non-league Ash Utd. had made it to the first round of the cup and went out 5-0 to Macclesfield. This, acting on pure speculation, must have given them a reputation boost. Four Years later they are now in the IPL, and able to gain promotion to the conferance S/N.

I remember Neil Deyjothin saying he was going to look at this issue a while back. (Possibly for FM06).
Smaller teams do get promoted to the lowest playable league - even if they don't start out in a feeder league - but it doesn't happen often enough for my liking. The lowest leagues just look less interesting a decade on when the majority of the teams are the same as at the start.
In fact, a more irritating factor is that when these teams do appear, they often have a long-term manager who wouldn't get the sack if he was caught snorting cocaine from the chairman's wife's arse-crack. It's nice to see these small clubs. It's better to get a chance to manage them.

| That all sounds great, and in an ideal World, that's how things would work, with reputation and other random issues affecting promotion to the playable leagues.
Unfortunately however, as Nobby has stated, that's not how it works in the game. Only teams that start in the IPL, SPL, & NPL can be promoted from those leagues and become playable. I don't doubt that you have seen Ash Utd in the IPL, but unfortunately they will never be promoted further.
I have heard, (despite covering my ears and humming very loudly while saying 3 Hail Llamas and an Our Frank), that it is possible, (not for a Llama), to do something unspeakable, that changes the reputation of a club that will then make them playable the following season.
I would guess that by doing so you override certain controls that SI have put in place to stop these teams becoming playable.
It is a shame, and one that I hope that SI will have beem looked at for 08, or at least have in mind to look at. Apologies if that post offended anyone. I did try to be as ambiguous as possible. |

I usually see the same teams pop back into the ECN/S year after year, and it is a bit boring.
But not in the latest year of my save! The mighty Harrow Borough have made it to the ECS!! Wish their manager would hurry up and get sacked so I can step into the fold.
I'd said on the FM08 wishlist that I'd like to see a couple more tiers of the English league pyramid added, but it wasn't a popular idea...

Adding extra leagues wouldn't be so much of an issue if there was more variety in the teams coming up, instead of the same group of 20 or so teams going up and down all the time.
