Some missed details:

Just after the summer break, I'm offered the Chile job. I politely decline. My star is rising, but again, not that much.

Also, my ecuadorian midfielder and brazilian superstud winger become naturalized chilean citizens. I've had a constant problem with the foreigner limit (4 per match), so this helps immensely.

Oh, and the upgrade to training facilities and youth facilites were completed midseason. Now they're only somewhat awful.

In the Clausura Playoff (Cup), we draw Universidad de Chile. I'm leery of any club called Universidad, but it could be worse, I guess.

WE open on the road, and fall behind 2-0 despite a posession edge. At the start of the second, we score, but immediately concede. Just as I'm looking for the positives in having an away goal, we score, then score again, only to have the tying goal called back. Blech. Two minutes later, we're awarded a penalty, and equalize. 3-3.

In the home leg, we're up 2-0 within 10 minutes, and it's just too big a mountain for them to climb. Yay us!

Who do we draw in the semifinal? Universidad Catholica?

I think I'll end this post here.

Ok, I *think* I've figured out how this works.

The apertura and clausura each have a champion, crowned by an 8 team playoff rather than record after the 19 matches. I *think* these two clubs automtically qualify for the Copa Libertadores (and directly to the group stage), which is a South American club championship that includes Mexico.

Last season, Colo Colo won the Apertura, while U****** C****** won the Clausura.

I *think* that the two highest placed clubs in the league table, outside of the two who already qualified, qualify for the preliminary round of the Copa Libertadores.

In any case, Curico Unido have qualified for the preliminary round of the Copa Libertadores. If we can beat Millonarios of Columbia, we'll make it to the group stage.

THIS is where I want Curico Unido to be. If I can win the Copa Libertadores, I will retire.

First, though, I need to do well in this one. Then, I'll need to qualify for next year. Neither promises to be an easy task.

2015 awaits!

Curico Unido

2015

No major signings. I tried to flesh out my youth program a bit, though. Mostly, I'm trying to get the board to expand our 4700 seat arena.

Copa Libertadores: We lost 1-0 on the road to Millonarios. Back at home, we scored late in the first half. In the 78th minute, my naturalized paraguayan missed the only penalty I've EVER seen him miss (and he's been with the club for 9 seasons now). It goes to penalties. We're up 2-0 after 2 rounds, but tied 2-2 after 5. It goes to the 8th round, where my brazilian misses.

The opening stage goes very well, as we score 6 more goals in 19 matches than anyone else, while having the third best defense.

Opening Stage: 1st of 20 W: 12 D: 4 L: 3 GD: +22 Pts: 40

This (or something!) qualifies us for the Copa Sudamericana. In the first prelim round we have the unabashed horror of drawing Colo Colo - the single most legendarily awesome club in Chile. We beat them 3-1 at home. On the road, Colo Colo score 2 in the first 20 to make it interesting, but our offense gets rolling and pots 3 of our own, and we win 6-4 on aggregate.

In the second prelim round, we faced the bright pink of Peru's Sport Boys. Ok. We rolled to a happy 3-0 aggregate.

Of the 16 clubs in the first round, 5 were brazilian, 4 were argentinian, 2 were mexican and 1 was american. This left 4 from the non-superpower south american countries, in this case chile, uruguay, columbia and bolivia. Not one of us minnows drew the other. In our case, we faced brazilians Palmeiras, and lost 3-0.

All things considered, a good run.

A good run would not be how I would describe the clausura. It started with our bolivian wunderstriker being signed by a major German club. We played consistently (shockingly) poorly.

Closing stage: 13th of 20 W: 5 D: 8 L: 6 GD: -6 Pts: 23

We missed the clausura playoffs on a tiebreaker, despite being in arguably the weakest group.

Overall: 3rd of 20, w: 17 D: 12 L: 9 GD: +16 Pts: 63

Our bolivian striker picked up Chilean first division player of the year on his way out. On the bright side, the board finally found some money, and promised to increase our stadium size.

When i saw the title for this thread I was well.... curious!
