I'd love some advice (but not tipping!)

The Canada post has just come open. I know from reading other people's LLM adventures that FM sometimes gives national manager positions to managers who really don't deserve it.

I really don't want to apply if I'm going to end up being given a post that I wouldn't realistically have a chance at. On the other hand, Canada is ranked 94th in the world, I'm a citizen, and I actually have some Chilean First Division experience.

I'd apply for sure if I thought the game would accurately and realistically assess the validity of my application. Since I doubt that the game can be realistic, would it be realistic if I applied and won? Or should I hold off applying until I've had more success?

I'm not an expert on Canadian football...

Do they normally have a Canadian manager? And how do you compare to the other Canadian managers?

I mean, if it is quite common for the Canadian team to be managed by a Canadian and you are up there with the "better" Canadian managers in the game, to me it would seem valid to apply.

But that's just my two cents.

With the except of a former Germany assistant manager, the managers since the early 90s have all been Canadian. Most have had experience working in North America (and thus some added exposure), though, which I don't.

The most recent manager had MLS experience, including a championship. My B division championship doesn't measure up, but I sincerely doubt that Canada has a wealth of top level division winning managers, period.

My gut feel is that 5 years of Chilean managerial work wouldn't make it totally implausible, but that I might be an outsider, and a bit of a longshot, depending on who else was applying.

I just don't know if I should trust FM to make a realistic decision.

(Sorry for going off topic._

The Canada job is not one of the top jobs in world football, is it?
Small nations sometimes get relatively unknown managers. Regardless of what happens, you're unlikely to set the world alight and the Canadian FA would know that, so they can get away with hiring someone who's basically there to lose to the USA and Mexico and give some of the Caribbean teams a good match.

I'd say it's fine in your case.

Well, I agree with turnip here. Canada isn't a great team, and with their history of preferring Canadian managers, then I'd say that your time in the first division should qualify you well enough.

Put then I'm a relative newbie and I'm probably not considered as zealous as some of the other LLaMas... Yet.

Canada are better at ice hockey than football anyway, so nobody there would really be that bothered.

I can't say I agree with turnip's reasons, as our national side is expected to get results (ideally starting tomorrow and beating the US to reach the Gold Cup final ) especially now that our youth sides have shown they are competitive on the world stage.

The new, incoming manager will be graduating from managing the U-20 side following the U-20 World Cup which is about to take place here in Canada, coincidentally. His predecessor is likely the same one who Vuroth is referring to as the latest manager. The hiring of him was somewhat controversial, as apparently the first choice was the same individual who took the Reggae Boyz to the World Cup a few years back, and rumour has it he was basically signed, sealed and delivered before a power struggle occurred in the association. It was a pretty big deal, actually....And for Simon's information, more people play football than they do ice hockey.

Anyway, you getting the position isn't overly unlikely, so no need to second guess the move in my opinion.

Bleh. After all that, I can't seem to apply. Either they already had a replacement lined up, or my settings at startup are precluding me becoming Canadian manager.

Either way, I think I've been off topic for too long.
