5 years in and great things have been happening at the small Derbyshire club
2006-07 - CONFERENCE NORTH
After taking the job I released 6 players and with no money to spend brought in 7 players all youngsters from Championship and League 1 sides.
My Championship loan keeper conceded only 23 goals all season as we finished 2nd in the league behind winners Boston United.
The play-offs pitted me against Crawley who I beat 1-0 at home and drew 3-3 with away. I was 3-1 down with just 8 minutes to go and threw the kitchen sink at them.
In the final 3 players saw red, 2 for me and 1 for Nuneaton who beat me 9-8 in a penalty thriller. Due to the number of players left on the pitch the keepers even had to take one each before my striker who'd scored the second penalty returned to the spot again but blazed over.
Heartbreak.
Top scorer got 26, most assists 11.
Finances up to £45102 after impressive cup run saw FA Cup 1st round defeat at Luton. I lost 6-0 but made a few quid!
Luckily the board allowed me a few grand to spend next time round on transfers. Thankfully!
Stupid relegated clubs. Boo! Halifax came down last season with an insane amount of cash and walked the league by 16 points. I finished 2nd again but didn't mind this year as I knew early on I was never going to win it.
Again it was loan signings. Not as impressive as last year admittedly with a few horrors in there. However I did get £12k for a CM who wasn't performing but strangely attracted Torquay's interest and I used the money to buy a £2k striker from Lincoln Reserves who probably didn't miss a shot all season and scored 31 times

He was the difference in the playoffs as well. A 1-0 defeat at Crawley, who I met in the play offs again, was followed by a 2-0 home win, that included a bizarre as you like own goal to level the tie before I got the winner. A year on and stronger for the pain of last year we won 2-1 in the final against Altrincham but in truth we should have absolutely battered them on the balance of play. The final at Brittania Stadium was attended by a very poor 8000 crowd so not the money spinner we'd hoped. Top assists came from my right back with 10 and his value is upto £30,000. At 20 years of age big things are expected for him. Off to the Conference National we go.
2008-09 CONFERENCE NATIONAL
Being tipped to finish 24th is bad enough. When the board give you no money and no additional wages it is even harder. 7 players were released from their contracts and in came 10. All out of contract players, some with lower league experience and one or two from conference clubs. 4 wins out of the first 6 games suggested anything but a season of struggle but a November injury crisis saw only 14 players fit and youth players were being brought in. This proved a small comfort in a run of 8 defeats in 11, as a 16 year old striker got 3 goals in this period despite the team not scoring and he looks one to watch out for. We steadied the ship around February and finished 15th, very respectable given the size of the task and the fact my assistant manager was less optimistic than the press. Conference winners were Shrewsbury who romped the league at the first attempt following their relegation from League 2 last year. Top scorer was a midfielder strangely with 11 but he did get 5 from the spot. Top assists came from attacking left midfielder with 7 and the season was remembered for my left back being sent off 4 times. I doubt his contract will be renewed! In other shocks Leicester are in Europe after winning the FA Cup 1-0 against Liverpool for whom Adriano missed 2 penalties.
Apologies for last post. Am copying from word into this as I find the window to small to see what I have and haven't written.
Firstly, why the hell does it look suspicious? And secondly, what the hell is the reference to 'not following LLM guidelines'. You telling me I can't loan Championship youngsters now?
Also, I am trying to flick between FM2007 and make notes of my seasons so far and then paste into here from word. Sorry I don't do it all in one go so less of the 'didn't you learn about the 3 seasons rule'

DOES THE FIRST LINE NOT MENTION 5 YEARS IN ...
Would this not suggest 5 YEARS ????????
I guess you're not going to show good grace & maturity then.
As for the 3 season rule stating you're 5 seasons in at the start does not absolve you of the need to follow the guidelines & we call the updates for a reason (short, to the point & informative but not War & Peace) take a look at Mousie's recent update thread for an idea of what we like to see.
I feel I should correct what I said in my last post, when I wrote 'what we like' I should have said 'what most people would consider accepatble', didn't mean to speak for the forum.
