I tried a search for this and couldn't find an answer but apologies if it is an obvious question.
I know that retaining players is a serious problem but how do other leagues running affect the database?
For example when the game comes out I intend to play a game starting in the Dutch Eerste division and will load some legues from other countries (SWYCT/SYB) but I just wondered if there was a similar problem about using leagues from other countries.
After all I dont want to have tons of Belgians around because I selected the Belgian leagues.
This can happen, unfortunately, since you'll increase the player pool by quite a lot compared to what it would be like without that specific league loaded.
I assume then any LLM game in Netherlands will have a reasonably small pool of players given it has 2 divisions only, unless I risk unbalancing it with foreigners.
I want a good Dutch career but don't really know about imapcts on database sizes having only ever played careers in England, Italy and Sweded with minimum of 7 leagues running.
Easiest solution would just be to load the "minimum seven" leagues you'd normally ruin with, then load the Dutch and Belgian as well - because the Dutch and Belgian leagues are small compared to the others, it won't unbalance the game too much i wouldn't think.
I'm thinking France (all leagues)
Germany (all leagues)
Belgium (all leagues)
England (BSP upwards)
If I also selected players from Netherlands Antillies, Aruba, Surinam then surely they would not be disproportionately represented as regens spread across 18 leagues given their small number of players.

Surely that's the retaining players you said causes problems in your original post?
From experience it does flood the leagues somewhat. EG: I loaded the MLS in my 07 save which seems to have activated players in Carribbean countries and hence the UK was rife with players from the Cayman's, Bermuda, Turks & Caicos etc. Not a whole lot can be done about it. Oh and I had about 12 countries fully loaded.
So like Nobby said, retaining those players will probabaly cause you the problem you stated you didn't want in your original post.
