I need some help here & as LLMers are the purists, you're the best to advise:
I'm in my 4th season, all with Histon. Season 1 saw me promoted from the Conference So, season 2 comfortable safe pos'n in the Conference Nat, season 3 started horribly, I rallied but was alas relegated to the Con No on the last day.
Season 4 is halfway through & I'm 2nd, miles ahead of 3rd & a point off the pace. I'm confident of promotion. Cash isn't a problem as I've spent nil on players & the 2 seasons up have resulted in a decent bank balance.
Now teams are sniffing around my players - Coventry in particular are after my 22-y/o star striker for up-to 160k. I don't need the cash, so I can refuse but is it 'ethical' in LLM?
IRL Histon would sell, but I have an eye on moving up & on & taking him with me. To keep him is 'unfair' on him & unrealistic, but it's only a game...I don't want to hamper his virtual career
Obviously it's my call, but do I go with realism & sell, or 'it's a game' and keep?
It's up to you, MacD. You need to consider all sides of it. As the manager its your job to decide what would be best. Would the club benefit more from the money? Or is the player's ability irreplaceable?
LLM is about playing the game as realistically as possible. If you think holding on to the player is more important than the cash then it is up to you.
Just check all the factors before you come to a conclusion.
Are the club's finances healthy?
Is the player one of the club's top earners, breaking the wage structure?
Is the player one of the key factors in the squad?
Is the player on a long-term contract or is he going to leave soon anyway?
Is the player likely to be upset if you decline him a chance of a transfer?
Is the player treated as really important by other players in the club?
Is the player a favourite of the chairman?
Is there already a decent backup in place that is just waiting for his chance?
Do the scouts already have someone on hand that would be at least the level of the player and you can purchase him with the money you'd get?
Lots of questions, and I bet there are even more. If you answer all those questions honestly from your manager's perspective, the outcome will be just fine with LLM no matter what it is.
