Sell. Gives you the excuse to go and buy another striker, or three.
I model my management style on that of a certain owner of Peterborough United crossed with a recent former Sheffield United manager. Both loved to dabble in the transfer market at any given time, both were succesful in their lower league careers.
However, if it was my 191cm centre forward I stole off Aston Villa, my best friend in cyber land, I'd probably cry. I'm going to miss him, I dread the day he retires. He's stood by m,e through thick and thin, to the last. I cried the day he got his first Sweden cap, and I cried the day I stood on that maternity ward cradling his first son in my arms. I don't know what I'd do if he ever asked for a transfer, but I honestly don't think he ever will.

what I did was - buy myself some time by adding loads of clauses - x after 10 games, y after howevermany goals, percentage sell-on and a stack of cash (well 100k) after an international app...
Coventry came back accepting all but the international clause. I didn't accept or reject their offer, not realizing that by stealth I had accepted it...
A fwe (game) days later I got a message saying he'd k/b'd Coventry as the wedge offered wasn't enough....
Close-call there, so all's well
