I had no scouts at the club playing with IK Brage in Sweden. And looking at the rest of the division, that seems to be very common. Only a couple of clubs seem to have had them at the start of the game; presumably, the rest used the job centre. (Which makes it doubly galling that no one wanted to come here via that method... )

I've expanded on my original description of my problem following Nobby's reply in the bug forum thread.

Some reports seem to be working fine; I have one 4 star Cur A/4 star Pot A on my scout list for a 29 year-old DR who's described as "not too much difference" between him and my current chap, "playing close to his full potential" and is consequently, "a good signing".

On the other hand, a 36 year-old DR described in the same terms ("unlikely to improve" this time for potential, but its effectively the same thing) by the same scout instead has 7 stars for both stats, 7 overall and is "a definite purchase".

Or two 31 year-old strikers. One described as "some way off" the standard of my current best SC, one described as "twice the player" of the same man, neither of them likely to improve. You would think the second striker would have the far better report, but both are 7 star/7 star, 7 overall and signings I should make "whatever the price".

This looks like a real problem to me. I'll post screenshot links in the bug thread (names included, though, so not here).

Yeah, think I may have had a bit of a drunk panic last night! I've had a better look around some of the other leagues I have loaded and it doesn't appear to be any better or worse than before. There are a couple of odd things such as premier league or seria a teams not having scouts but on the whole in the lower leagues its business as usual.

@ rourke: I think it's been reported as a bug and has been acknowledged by SI.

emgergo is right, it's getting a severe looking at as quite a few seemingly anomolous scout reports have been mentioned.

The distribution of scouts at clubs and difficulty in hiring them isn't seen as a problem but it's worth keeping an eye on to see if clubs who don't start with any do actually aquire them.

It seemed in my first save that it takes 46 odd days to find a player, but 2 days later has 54! By which time the season is 2 games old, so there is no time to intergrate the new into the old.

Also, every player (and i mean EVERY player) is "sign at any cost", including those with 2 star current abilty.

In case this is of interest, and because I have to do something while trying to rock my whiny teething 6 month old to sleep...

Having let my save run to Dec 7th 2007 from a July 11th start date - 35 (I think) leagues from 11 countries loaded, large database, a quick straw poll from 4 more or less randomly picked bottom divisions reveals the following:

Conference North: 16 out of 22 teams started without scouts, all signed by 7/12. Average time to sign first scout: 46 days (high 88, low 25)

Swedish 2nd Div North: All 12 teams started without scouts, 2 failed to sign scouts by 7/12. Average time for the rest to get their first: 63.5 days (high 122, low 28)

Irish 1st Div: 7 out of 10 started without scouts, 1 failed to sign one by 7/12. Average time for the rest: 47 days (high 112, low 25)

Scottish 3rd Div: 6 out of 10 started without scouts, 2 failed to sign one by 7/12. Average time for the rest: 66 days (high 110, low 29)

So it's certainly taking the AI a while, and scouts are certainly in really short supply at the bottom end of things.

this is a very technical posting for my LL-brain to digest...
And here I was just playing to crash teams (or the computer, whichever came first).
But for what it's worth, the real LL-team websites that I have been to, they don't really post their scouts in the staff pages...
